I am greatly concerned over oil rape of NC vs. developing alternate sources of energy for our state. Here are some serious questions:

(1) Why make the chemicals used in fracking a hidden thing with felony charges attached?
(2) Who in their right mind would put oil wells in waters next to the Gulf Stream and in an area of the Atlantic known as "The Graveyard" due to severe storms guaranteed to threaten any ships at sea---much less oil drilling rigs?
(3) Who conned our Legislature into thinking ground water would not be affected by the chemicals uses and the crud with oil in it is floated to the surface?
(4) As we live in the bottom part of the river basins flowing through the fracked places, who would NOT think we threaten ourselves with great pollution from fracking?

I have talked with a good and wise person who represents Nash County. He tells me outside consultants convinced you guys that fracking was safe ~~~ REALLY????

If it is "so safe" why are many states in the Midwest up in arms over it and why are wealthy people forbidding it done on their lands?

Already, there is seismic activity in Yellowstone Park which is alleged to be connected to the fracking being done at its fringe?

Are the Koch Brothers simply now collecting on the billions they spent on the last elections --- the largest amount on the Tillis campaign in NC?

The changes sound wise to me. We love to gripe in Beaufort County, so the fact I hear none of it means we are making some progress . . .

I have a simple question: Since human life is in the balance and our jail is in the basement of a building unprotected from fire and made of heart pine wood ~~~ why has this problem not been addressed long ago???

One prisoner has been bitten by a recluse spider / another came in with TB and exposed the others as he coughed and spread germs in a basement environment. These are just recent events and how long has this neglect continued?

If we keep making excuses and doing nothing, there will be a terrible tragedy / lawsuits over neglect / more cost for nothing on top of costs for nothing already growing bigger and bigger "as we study it."

If you go to Amsterdam and see the large flower industry shipping their goods world wide every day ~~~ you have the purpose of the Transpark. It just takes the eastern NC farmer to see the value of flowers alongside tobacco to make it what it is meant to be.

I wonder if you said the same about Research Triangle Park some years back? Without a dream and with critics on all sides, even the best ideas perish for a lack of insights and foresight!

Congrats, Stan ~~~ it is hard to believe the quality of it with your small staff doing great and cutting edge work.

The last time Stan and I visited he showed me another new technology which will make BCN easy to read and access via portable media devices. We are sleeping / Stan is dreaming and thinking . . . Pray for his wife to be patient with him. . .

So is it the Right Wing that is now pushing Fracking in NC / Oil Exploration in the Graveyard of the Atlantic and beside the Gulf Stream????

Like many of your surveys, Stan, you always get what you ask for!!!

My use of "hate" is in reference to those articles --- many times saying and showing it without coming right out and saying "I hate . . ." You will never have a study by doing a word search. The CONTEXT of the use is what is analytical, my friend. . .

Since it's February, do a word search on LOVE for us, if you please . . .

All one has to do to view the politics of hate is to copiously read BCN and the organizations which get plenty of display here.

Since I am interested in how the politics of hate plays out, I read it often and also comment often . . .

The comparison picture was a cartoon from the L.A. Times of Rush Limbaugh smoking a cigar and dressed in high heels selling his conservative hate on the streets of America. His kind of rhetoric compared to that of Christ is vastly different . . .

DUDE~~~the Nazi Party rose to stroke the egos of white / German / oppressed after WWI people.

Whites feel oppressed today / many know they are taxed to death in the middle class / they are angry ~~~ what more comparison do your need, my brother????

Do you sponsor fire-light parades with stomping boots???

Get over it, Stan ~~~ the world and this nation do not always dance to your tune and that of Conservatism. When Germany did such, we got Hitler and Concentration camps.

Had they learned to dance to the Have Nagila tune, it might not have been. If we don't recognize it today, we are doomed to the same totalitarian rule, I fear . . .

Our "melting pot" will never run together UNTIL the HATE stops . . .

I think this is a "tempest in a teapot." The names of buildings and highways is a kind of grave marker. It honors people who give money or take tax dollars as if they created the highway. The next person who gives more gets his name up and to heck with the past, it seems.

What is the problem with recognizing we had a problem with race in the past / that should be over / HOWEVER we are turning such to a contemporary problem which still exists.

Reverse racism is just as bad as old racism ~~~ get the heck over it!!!

What if it vacations like Bush did his first year / gets us blown up on 9/11 by countermanding the standing order to pursue and force down any hijacked commercial airliner / what if it orders torture of POW's against the Geneva Convention???

I am totally unimpressed with your harsh criticisms as he now has a 51% and growing approval rating, good buddy . . .

Stan~~~did you read the Matthew 23 passage yet from Jesus?

I am concerned with the growing division between folks even through the Conservatives won the mid-terms. Would it not be far wise to put up the swords and beat the spears into plow shares?

Just asking . . .

WOW ~~~ Stan says something positive about the President!!! Mark this day on my calendar.

I am surprised that an Administration blocking the XL pipeline over environmental concerns would consider offshore drilling over alternate energy sources like wind, solar, tidal changes. I suspect the power and wealth of Koch Industries even invades the Democrats in DC. Who the heck knows for sure???

Personally, I see great danger in messing with oil in the graveyard of the Atlantic and adjacent to the Gulf Stream which runs all the way to Greenland. If you have been out there, as I have, you recognize the pristine waters that compose it.

What concerns me most is man's greed vs. preservation of natural resources we could lose with stupid moves. I have been to Europe. They have no forests left to provide cheap materials so individuals can own homes. What they do still have is carefully managed and not nearly adequate for poor working people to have cheaper housing.

The rich own all the houses and lease them to the working masses. Cut it as you please, but America was built on the dream of common people working and making enough to own their own home. Will that dream continue depends on what we allow the rich to have and do in this Golden Dream . . .

Charlotte reminds me of Atlanta in the 80's---always behind by 20 years on highway construction because of rapid growth. The wise planners in NC can profit from this experience.

Raleigh Triangle has done a great job to stay ahead. Greensboro Triangle is not as good. Charlotte is just the same mess as Atlanta. The dilemma is growing population and high cost of roads vs. how do you get ahead. . .

The same issue applies to schools in growth. Atlanta had in my day of the 50-60's a need for a new classroom every Monday. Now, the portable units can be quickly placed and if the population decreases be moved to a place of greater need.

Live and Learn always makes sense to me . . .

I think we can do better than the hate-politics you sometimes promote in excess, in my view . . . Satire gives a laugh / hate gives a sword . . .

Stan~~~I think you might well re-read the Gospels. Jesus was more full of political commentary than you now, my brother.

Read Matthew 23 as he addresses the Pharisees of his day --- who appear to me to be most similar to Conservatives and politicians of today . . .

This is a classic Pharisee Law approach. The basic issue is abortion which was legalized in Roe v Wade by the Supreme Court years ago. Now, we have this ungodly long and detailed bunch of goo to try and stop most abortions and threaten doctors without threatening women.

This all comes from a bunch of legislators who say they want to minimize government intrusion into our lives!!!! Now I have seen the height of hypocrisy. . . Even the woman dealing with it is jumped on for criticizing the men running the show.

Let's just cut to the chase: Suture all female vaginae shut until they are married / cover them up with a big black drape so men won't be tempted to touch / go back to God and tell him sex is evil and he made a mistake with giving it to us humans . . .

There is a mental illness called Reaction-Formation Psychosis which is lose in the Congress. It is best described by Old Maid's Syndrome. The single lady calls the cops each night claiming a man is under her bed or peeking in her window because ~~~ in her heart she wishes there were one!!!

Common sense has left her. She is driven by fear of her own lusts and how God made her. She can no longer function in society. She needs a stay at some mental facility with much therapy to help her . . .

This is all "crazy on steroids" to me. When will it end????

That rates a 4 BS factor to me. If there were a emoticon for "too much use of the "L" word ~~~ that would be more accurate.

A good education requires examination of all your presuppositions then coming out with an ability to reason out your own outlook. The sociologist, Merton, called it a "Psycho-Social Moratorium." It means self-examination and then a mind which is ready to think objectively for the rest of your life.

Now, let's get real, my brother ~~~ did you ever have a self-examination and mind expanding experience in your educational process, Stan????
