There is a certain PRIDE in Hood's remonstrance. I totally agree with him about following proper steps.

On the other hand, has he become such a source of disgruntled non-cooperation that others felt compelled to try and avoid the usual activities of Volcano Hood??? I am told, although I have not been present, that before the monkey show of Conservatism took place on our state and national level, we used to have a right good kind of cooperation in Beaufort County.

Maybe it would be wise to consider the basic personality clashes causing this problem and working on more cooperation over such issues as the jail and healthcare in Belhaven. I believe Hood is a big enough man to work with others as you have been since my presence seeing Council meetings here, Stan.

Congrats, Stan, on the growth. It is a direct result of hard work and long hours by a small staff---starting with YOU!!!

I appreciate the opportunity to participate, buddy!

I have lived in NC/SC/GA and each state has the same issue with judges. They make critical decisions and administer Justice so that should be far more important to voters than most other candidates we vote for!

I suggest we have a clearly stated and simple outline of those running each election cycle. I should be published and readily available over the current "you have to find out for yourself" method.

The current emphasis on who appoints the next Supreme Court Justice as President is but the tip of the iceberg. From the days of Solomon an ability to be fair and balanced is reflected in the statue of Lady Justice---blindfolded / holding the scales of justice / not pre-disposed to any party but administering law in a fair manner irregardless of race, social class, or locality.

Let's cut to the chase, shall we ~~~ I paid my Federal Taxes / part of that is to be returned to NC in the form of Medicare/Medicaid funds / The dictators in Raleigh choose not to accept such and let our state flounder.

NO PROGRAM is ever "perfect." Kwitcherbitchin and say THANKS to the Federal government for the money to help places like Belhaven have a reasonable level of medical care . . . Every day spent with BS in Raleigh is a day when people die of needless neglect . . .

Here is a core issue over Conservatism today --- are we a Christian Nation?

The answer: ARTICLE 11.

As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,-and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

We will forever debate "right and wrong." Those are absolute opposites when the middle usually contains more things we can all agree on, my brother!

If we want some real guidance on "right and wrong" then we must go to Jesus, in my view. The Conservative Pharisees had it made making money on religion. Jesus whipped them from the Temple steps / they plotted to get rid of this radical / they succeeded in his death by horrible crucifixion ~~~ BUT God had bigger plans. . .

Bertie County was likely different from the present Bertie County. My ancestor, Major James Scarborough built a house at Seratoga which was part of Edgecombe County at the time. Today, it is part of Pitt County. We had few counties and they were more than big at the time!

This is a good picture of Indian affairs and personal gain connected with a powerful appointee to government. As today, those with means seem to get the call.

It appears to me that the man was one of good will and pressure to please both Indians and settlers. Hard dilemma to do both and, as time tells us, impossible!

This is a drop in the bucket of NC economic progress!

I think a dog walking across the Executive Mansion lawn and pissing on a bush is about the same . . .

I hope more people will join this discussion---it is crucial and important that more than Stan and me discuss a central problem for today in America . . .

When you turn "informed dissent" into "squishy middle" you have clearly defined your position of radical conservative / hard head / refuse to compromise . . .

I "conserve" that which is worth conserving / refuse to destroy valuable parts of our American heritage. I will be cover more of this in articles soon to come . . .

I love and appreciate the openness of Stan to alternate articles---how I wish he could do the same with his personal outlook.

As a Moderate, I can agree to disagree with most folks. If you were a SBC type Conservative --- hell bent on control and dictating a fundamentalist theology---NO WAY HOSE!!! Many of us moderates lost our votes and the NC Baptist State Convention will not accept gifts from any church which ministers to homosexuals or has a female pastor.

This is Conservatism at its worst when people are dis-enfranchised. I pastored the N. Rocky Mount Baptist which took a fundamentalist pastor to court and those who naively followed over who were the real Southern Baptists and who should keep the church facilities. For once, the thieves lost and had to move to another location to do their hate thing . . . It is a legal precedent in NC, folks . . .

Dog-gone, Stan---them be sum big wurds in the last pari-graphy!!!

Why is it you keep defining me despite my common sense questions as a "liberal?" If a bully is in the house I notate it and let others decide who they wish to follow. I don't appreciate bullying when rational discussion is in order.

The activities of Legislative Hill in Raleigh pale in comparison to a full moon night on Dix Hill just across town and now closed. I worked there and I know . . .

I recommend huge doses of Thorazine!

In my view --- we USED to have a collegial bunch of representative / now we are trying our best to be the same kinds of fools who run out State and Federal Systems. Come on folks, let's start acting like the good country commons sense people we can be . . .

Sure, Stan --- BUT the monkeys climbing the Conservative tree are certainly showing their lack of understanding of American traditions . . .
Commented: Thursday, April 16th, 2015 @ 11:51 am By: Gene Scarborough
I am amazed at the divisions being thrust into an already divided situation in the Middle East. It seems no Senator is above pontificating when our tradition has ALWAYS BEEN that the Executive Branch negotiate treaties and then Congress approves them.

I love your mule blinders, Stan. When it comes to Conservative, you are like my grandpa's 2-2X4 mule = have to break a stud over his head to get his attention / then another one to get the message across . . .

"What Conservatives like me conserve is foremost: the truth, honor, integrtiy and dignity, then the Constitution, then fiscal soundness, then fairness in administering government equally, then mapping out a more logical path forward" . . .

I am looking for the "forward, truth-telling Conservative who can see all sides of any issue and cooperate with others who lead . . .

Sorry, but I must have missed something in the Beaufort County Council meetings of late, Stan.

I love ya, man, but you and your buddies are more than hard headed and hearted, in my view . . .
Commented: Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 @ 12:13 pm By: Gene Scarborough
If you can show me what Conservatives have CONSERVED --- I would be most grateful. Thus far, they have destroyed far more of our economy and tax code than words can say . . .

Great Answer, Stan --- divert the attention and put in a red flag distraction!!! I think Rush Limbaugh has a replacement -- or perhaps Sean Hannity . . .

You are going to do your Conservative thing AND I will be up your butt at every turn to make sure you have a little bit of logic behind your, thus far, empty assertions . . .
Commented: Monday, April 13th, 2015 @ 4:51 pm By: Gene Scarborough
I love it when you give such answers and it clearly tells me my question was a GOTTCHA! Hang in there, buddy, we have 2 years to sort this out and there will be surprises all around before it's over.

One might well be Cheney or Bush arrested and taken to The Hague for trial over torture . . .
Commented: Monday, April 13th, 2015 @ 9:52 am By: Gene Scarborough
The WORLD IS HUNG UP on our torture and our Imperialist designs, Stan --- you are trying to ignore a serious issues of Conservatives all the way from Reagan = they DO NOT do what they promise and end up CONSERVING NOTHING . . .
Commented: Monday, April 13th, 2015 @ 9:43 am By: Gene Scarborough
Once more Stan ~~~ I AM A INDEPENDENT WHO IS BASICALLY CONSERVATIVE --- meaning I do not claim to conserve what is important and then destroy it all!!!

Hillary disclosed more than Bush/Cheney has divulged over Torture of POW's --- in clear violation of the Geneva Accords . . .

Liberty. Freedom. Sanctity of life. The Constitution. The Republic.

Liberty --- redistricting all NC voting districts to favor Conservatives
Freedom --- Marriage Amendment proved unconstitutional and is nothing more than dictating your views to the public when we can do better with "freedom and justice for all"
Sanctity of Life --- anti-abortion which the SCOTUS decided was for each woman to decide
Constitution --- why so many reversals of Conservative legislation????

Here are my answers to each of your propositions. It is obvious we strongly disagree on your position---and that is OK to "agree to disagree."

Commented: Monday, April 13th, 2015 @ 6:43 am By: Gene Scarborough
Here is a "finding" you must first explore, Stan ~~~ What have Conservatives actually CONSERVED???

I dare you to put aside the vitriol toward "liberals" and speak for the folks you think have so much promise for us in NC and the USA . . .
Commented: Monday, April 13th, 2015 @ 6:05 am By: Gene Scarborough
Here we go---a Democrat has now announced and Stan is on his soap box calling names! The problem, Stan, is you always call names in only one direction---as if there is only one way to go and it is nasty to do otherwise.

You are consistent with your Obamahate to the end. Meanwhile, major issues get ignored in NC and the US.

Let me be the fist to say, "There is no magic answer nor any party with all the solutions. The needed factor, in my view, is to quit the gossip and deal with real issues instead . . .

I would prefer you cite some real issues / tell us what the candidates propose to do about them / show us how we can work together for good rather than keep up the division of the last 20 years.
