You 2 "brilliant Conservatives" missed the last part = "DO THE SAME THINGS THEIR FORMER ENEMIES DID THAT THEY CRITICIZED . . ."

I always had growing numbers of people coming to hear me BT!!! How did you do with your "congregation"???

Now---if the Deacons had told me certain subjects were off limits and I had to leave my Bible at home, then I would complain---or just leave to better places . . .

Today's early news shows Trump ahead of Bush and the rest by double their percentage. I think it says far more about the American voting public than anythings else.

It is the FRUSTRATION leads to AGGRESSION or REGRESSION rule. What is your personal feeling over the angst in America these days???

My experience with Conservatism in the Southern Baptist Convention showed me how they meet in secret places / plot to overthrow / make up lies and rumors on their enemies / then do the same things they claimed were EVIL under the former leaders . . .

Is this saying "enough is enough" over the rich ruling America when it was designed to give ALL citizens "freedom and justice for all . . .?"

If the Feds own the land, then they must take care of it---that somewhat offsets the tax burden to maintain roads and infrastructure, does it not???

I have no problems with your policies and have been honored that you publish my contrarian-to-conservatism stuff, Stan. You are a good man with much integrity, but many are watching this week as the Republican Debate looms and all we want is "fair and balanced" --- the same thing as Fox News claims to be . . .

Thom Tillis did a driveby on Kay Hagan over her husband's company and solar energy which was nasty and helped him win as our new Senator ~~~ now this!!!

I know our Attoney General to be an honest man running an honest part of NC Government in the clear light of day. That is good!!!

I am beginning to smell a pole cat as the Governor and Legislature continue to tell us stuff one day and we find out is it untrue the next . . .Between the Ash Dumps on the Haw River by Duke Energy and now this---the Charlotte end of the state is becoming a quagmire of wheeling and dealing, it seems . . .AND don't forget the FRACKING fiasco that continues either!

So-o-o-o ~~~ You are telling me it is a wild Internet site beyond the Publisher's control????

Surely, you didn't get a big gift from "The Donald" or RNC yesterday that had any influence on your publication . . .

Stan---any reason why this article got 170 hits yesterday in its first presence and now is off the front page???
Commented: Tuesday, August 4th, 2015 @ 4:19 am By: Gene Scarborough
Amazing, Stan --- my article on the Great Debate got 170 views yesterday / now it is off the front page / you post a most critical article on Democrats (Liberals) and think you can divert us from the monkeys climbing the Conservative Tree?

Dude~~~the media is monofocused on the Debate and the California wildfire, so let's be relevant, shall we . . .

I thank you, Tom, for the down-to-earth analysis. The purpose of lawyers and trials is to run up billable hours when Judge Judy could solve it in half a show!

Frankly, I am tired of bitching and moaning over voting. NC ain't Chicago!

Water seeks its own level, TM. Sometimes it is shallow / at other times deep / the tide here on the Pamlico usually has a 1' variance and that is good.

If you put it in biblical terms, Paul said, "Some are ready for milk while others are ready for meat so I try to supply both and hope God grants the increase."

I see the Hospital Authority Board is on the agenda---yet there is no time for public question --- and I assume the Commissioners will drone on and on with typical meandering settled with a vote already decided before the meeting!

QUESTION: Is the Hospital money involved in a tax-exempt / non-profit status???

I ask my question in this forum since attendance by citizens never gets much real information . . .

Christopher---I think you have cited an age-old dilemma: "Do I remain stupid or Do I try to make sense of nonsense around me?"

The first example which comes to mind is whether the earth is the center of the universe or is it a small part of the Milky Way moving at great speed through space and infinity. . .

Mankind could not help but note how the big bright ball came up every morning and went away at night. Rather than see it as we now know it to be, the ancients first thought all revolved around us!

Now that we have the Hubble telescope and can see further than ever before, we still don't KNOW any theory that covers it all. This last month we had a Blue Moon. Despite all our calculations, we still can't come up with a calendar or clock which accounts for all things of Creation.

People have been threatened, killed, fought mighty mental battles over "What is Real." What is wrong with saying, "Some things are just mysterious!"

I found the Pocono NASCAR race --- several of the drivers ran out of gas ~~~ seems there is some symbolism to your discussion of this important thread . . .
Commented: Sunday, August 2nd, 2015 @ 5:16 pm By: Gene Scarborough
Gentlemen, this thread for the last 10 or so posts is nothing but a NASCAR wreck as Danica Patrick sails past. Which one of you jokers has the Confederate flag over his windshield as he drinks beer and babbles?

You all remind me of Jeff Dunham's Bubba . . .

Stan---Partial birth abortion is horrible and seldom practiced when idiots like you act as though all of them are such. Of course, you know more than any woman carrying that child to term or deciding to stop it IN THE FIRST TRIMESTER!!!

I am not aware of public funds covering any abortion. Private insurance --- the dreaded ObamaCare --- now allows women to get insurance they were denied before it passed and has been upheld by the SCOTUS. US women no longer have to endure coathanger abortions in filthy closets---thank God!

Those of you who enjoyed the Playboy lifestyle have the personal experience (or your knocked up old gal did) and you probably ran to the opposite corner and pointed a finger at your buddy who participated.

As for me, I happened to be President of the Emory Baptist Student Union the year Altizer did his "God Is Dead" stuff. How many of you know the debate was over transcendence and immanence --- and even what that means?

I suppose BT can Google it and pretend to be theologically educated . . .

Enjoy your race / drink plenty of beer / otherwise, I don't give a crap and have my son and family here enjoying the river while I play with you blackberry pickers before I go outside and join them with some real living.

Don't get too many chiggers as you pick after the season is over!

NOW --- who has enough brains to discuss Separation of Church and State which is the current subject of discussion . . .
Commented: Sunday, August 2nd, 2015 @ 4:02 pm By: Gene Scarborough
To answer you question about the "Emory way" --- I already stated it: Show knowledge of both sides~~~THEN show your conclusion backed by your rationale. It is not sufficient to say "because I told you so" which is Stan's favorite put down.

Many really great discussions are accompanied by Bennett Wine and cheese. You can consult with Stan on the quality of Bennett Wine and Buddy's company . . .

Bobby Tony --- I use a few unique characteristics in my writing to save time and make points more quickly. Get over it, bro . . . I also use the --- to link things and separate for clarity and highlighting. I call them the "William Faulkner technique."

At Emory and all quality educational institutions you use footnotes to cite the source. I don't know what they taught you at GSC or Ted McD at SMU ---NEVER TAKE THE OTHER GUY'S IDEA OF SYNTAX WITHOUT PROPER CREDIT!!!

That, my friend, is PLAGIARISM and several good writers got caught and crushed when it was exposed --- many of them Conservative writers . . .by the way!

Bobby T --- you are using Internet Plagiarism for your mind to appear bright ~~~ the Emory Honor Code would have you expelled, buddy . . .

Try the "Emory way of logic" in the future = examine both sides of any issue to prove you understand such---THEN present your thoughts and reasons for them.

There is a vast difference between a sales talk and good debate. In fact, the first rule of a good sales response to objection is "GET ON HIS SIDE." If that ever happens here with you or Stan, I will be rolling in the floor spewing coffee all over my lovely view of the Pamlico River, man!!!

Great research, BT!!!

Another thing you will likely NOT find is the Board of Directors of the Moral Majority---composed of such notables such as Charles Stanley and Paige Patterson, to name a few of SBC background.

Another thing to note is Falls Road Baptist Church and Liberty University, both in Lynchburg, were Independent Baptist and built their big mega church on abject criticism of all other churches in the town. A unique feature of such churches was the fact the Pastor owned the Property rather than a Board of Trustees. That way he could invite any critics to leave with no notice and they had given much and went away with nothing!

All the sermons I heard from Falwell were "full of mean," in my view --- nothing but criticism and anger. I take you back to my article on the SBC takeover under the "Conservative Resurgence" umbrella. After they succeeded many new students at Southeastern Seminary were all coming from Liberty / Heritage (Pat Robertson) and other ultra-conservative institutions because now "SEBTS was SAFE!" That translates to "it does not trouble your theological stance with serious questions."

When I first started writing in BCN with jokes, I noticed Stan's zest for excellence. I was sitting with him a couple of years ago after I did some tree work and noted his clarity of mind and purpose as well as ability to put out his thoughts---whether I agreed with them of not.

We are totally agreed that clarity and logic are both important in today's world of confusion. I think we respect one another and his willingness to post my articles, even though from a contrarian viewpoint---proves his worthy goals as the Publisher.

One of the tenants of modern conservative preaching is alliteration. Stan could be such with " regional sustainability of place and purpose, and promise."

I could, with humor, say "Stan is full of P's!" I have a sermon I love entitled "Four Strong Words for a Searching Generation."
*Listen
*Learn
*Love
*Live

I guess you could say "I am full of L's." I love good alliteration to help people remember what you said or wrote!

The complete wording is:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

The First Amendment's Establishment Clause prohibits the government from making any law “respecting an establishment of religion.” This clause not only forbids the government from establishing an official religion, but also prohibits government actions that unduly favor one religion over another. It also prohibits the government from unduly preferring religion over non-religion, or non-religion over religion."

Do us "liberals" have to put all the words up each time or simply state it as "separation of church and state?"

The 501(c)3 status of "non-profit/tax-exempt" clearly states that such entities are prohibited from political activities and undue influence of government.

Add to this --- the history of Founding Fathers shedding of the cloak of tyrannical Kings and wealth + the power of church over state in both England and Europe --- and you have the context of the above statement. In this century we are far away from that dream of "freedom and justice for all."

I come from a Baptist background where --- from Roger Williams in Providence, R.I., with a formal type church to the Circuit Riders of the South like the Methodists --- ALL have refused to bow down to the state nor try and force the state to make them the new rulers of the new nation . . .

I have my Masters of Divinity. A part of such is Church History from the Early Church to the present. You can now Google much of this OR I still have my big Church History text you can come and read for yourselves.

Somehow, Jerry Falwell and his Moral Majority escaped censure and taxation for violation of the rules. Big mouth aggressive religious potentates are hard to control while claiming Separation of Church and State in the reverse . . .Reagan enlisted their help in his run and things have not been the same since!

Once again, I want to affirm Stan as a good Publisher who is allowing for more than just the Conservative stance. I really hope this is part of the growing readership thing.

Between me and Brant Clifton plus one other writer, we are getting some good diversity ~~~ AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH "AGREEING TO DISAGREE" ON ANY GOOD TOPIC!

Stan---I'm warming up my chipper and ready to come by if you keep calling me a "liberal," bro. In the spirit of Christian love, I'm tired of the disrespect of a thinking man who is just to the left of centrist . . .

Are we ganging up on Stan over the "Male Chauvinist Pig" thing or are you simply observing with no position and throwing soft cotton in the debate???
Commented: Saturday, August 1st, 2015 @ 5:31 pm By: Gene Scarborough
Stan---if you don't know that a chauvinist is a male conservative tantamount to the Muslim Fundamentalists, you have no clue.

Such men think they have the right to control women like some Drill Sergeant. That never works and the wise man makes "Yes Dear" his last word in the argument!

I am Baptist in heritage = individual freedom (autonomy) / majority vote / conservative with a brain ~~~ NOT Calvinist which is a Presbyterian thing and currently a bone of contention among Southern Baptists. . . The Conservatives were such control freaks they kicked my kind of Baptist to the curb---BUT we reorganized to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

Public funding of abortions is a mute point. If you will clarify, I will gladly answer.

I think something we can agree upon is careless child production by people on welfare already. My position is that no one on the public dole should ever have more than 2 children. If they can't take care of it, it should be part of the program to clip their tubes after #2.

How's that for being a good conservative!!!
