Last night, the North Carolina state Senate unveiled its two year state budget proposal. Total spending included for FY 2013-14 comes to $20.58 billion, which would be roughly $400 million higher than the current year's budget, good for a 2.3 percent increase.

The Senate and House completed work on the 2012-13 state budget on Thursday, June 21, by adopting the joint conference report that makes changes to the second year of the state's biennial budget.

Some of the proposed budget cuts include a temporary halt on salary increases for state employees, including teachers; and a $253 million reduction in funds to the University of North Carolina system.
