An average day in the life of a grunt in the II Corp area Northeast of Saigon in 1968 consisted of Eagle Flights. We would form groups of six in two columns. The Huey helicopters would come in to pick us up. Usually three men from each side would upload on the Hueys.

I arrived in Great Lakes Navy Boot Camp in 1966; soon standing naked shoulder to shoulder in a line of 50 guys as one corpsman walked in front checking my private parts and one in back administering a gigantic penicillin shot to the buttocks.

Look at the pictures carefully and you see 6 guys. Add the teenager in a separate photo and you have a squad of infantrymen. The Sarge, Machine gunner, two ammo bearers, One rifleman and one who might have been a medic. This may have been the whole squad which was normally 7-12 guys.
