United Methodist Church loses a million members in one day over wokeness | Eastern North Carolina Now

more conferences threaten to leave increasingly "woke" denomination

ENCNow

The increasing "wokeness" of the United Methodist Church had led many congregations and members to flee.  Now an entire conference of the church which has a million members has voted to disaffiliate over wokeness. Others are preparing to do so.

The increasingly leftward lurch of the United Methodist Church led many of its more conservative congregations to split off and found a rival Methodist body, the Global Methodist Church.  Many churches in eastern North Carolina, including First Methodist Church of Washington abandoned the United Methodist Church for the new Global Methodist Church.  In all, over 4,000 congregations left the United Methodist Church last year.

The impetus for more disaffiliation from the UMC was the vote by the denomination last month to allow homosexual clergy and homosexual marriage.  That has enlarged the flood out of the United Methodist Church.

The United Methodist Church of the Ivory Coast, with a million members, voted last week to cut their ties with the parent body.  They are expected to seek affiliation with the Global Methodist Church instead.  The Ivorian conference which was one of the UMC's largest, accused the parent body of "deviating from the Holy Scriptures."  Bishop Benjamin Boni, leader of the Ivorian conference declared that the parent church  "now rests on socio-cultural values that have consumed its doctrinal and discliplinary integrity."

The Korean Methodist Church, with 1.5 million members, is expected to also leave shortly.  African churches are particularly opposed to homosexuality and more departures among UMC conferences on that continent are likely.

The secularist left has been infiltrating so-called "mainline churches" for decades, and it is not just the United Methodist Church. That branch of the Methodist Church does seem to be marching left at the fastest pace right now, but they have still not reached where the United Church of Christ has gone (the plain Church of Christ is a very different entity and a solid Bible-believing church, mpt at all like the social gospel United Church of Christ).

The US branch of the Episcopal Church has moved almost as far to the left as the United Methodist Church. Indeed, the African and Asian branches of that church have been making noises for years about leaving the worldwide Anglican communion over the liberal position on things such as homosexuality of the US Episcopalian church. So far, the parent church in the UK has been able to work out compromises.

It is good to see that Methodists who do not buy into the liberal "social gospel" now have a home in the Global Methodist Church, and it looks like there is an exodus into this new church grouping.

It is not just homosexuality with the United Methodist Church. They are also heavily involved in promoting illegal immigration into the US. They behave more like a progressive NGO than a real church, putting the leftwing "social gospel" ahead of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

All who believe on Jesus the only begotten Son of God are part of his church, which is His body. The different denominations signify His body that was broken. As it was written:

“For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.

For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? what shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”

So we see that true communion is not to sit quietly after eating a wafer crisp and taking a shot of grape juice as many do, but rather observing the divisions and baptizing our minds in the blood that is the New Testament. That we may now prove ourselves diligent and know what is truth.

My wife and I have friends who left United and went with Global. It's concerning and sad when congregations don't agree and run off to start a new church. (non-Biblical disagreements) But when a large church body (national / international conference) shoots its own self in the foot [so to speak] and drives off huge numbers of their people, it's particularly saddening.

We are told in the Bible that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. His sacred Word hasn't changed. And at end of the Revelation, it's even clearly stated that anyone who adds to or takes away from the Word will be judged severely.

Other churches also change their directions, but this is not acceptable in God's sight when it comes to Biblical matters. We are even warned by the early Apostles that wolves will come in sheep's clothing. Happened Then - Still Happening Today.

Two local GOP officeholders, Randy Walker and Carolyn Walker, both left First Methodist Church when it joined the Global Methodist Church and decamped to a smaller Methodist church that stayed with the liberal United Methodist Church. Apparently there was some animosity involved in their departure. One wonders, now that the United Methodist Church has doubled down on homosexuality, if they are happy with that decision? Henry Hinton, on his show on WTIB this morning played a tape of a roll call at that UMC convention that pushed homosexuality harder, and each delegate gave their name, race, gender identity, sexual preference, and pronouns at the microphone. It was disgusting. Hinton said he understood why so many churches were abandoning that denomination.

It is very odd for someone to be more loyal to their denomination, especially a very liberal one like the United Methodist Church, than to their own local church and congregation. Very odd, indeed.
