Beaufort County Government's General Meeting Agenda: Monday, June 3, 2013 | Eastern North Carolina Now

The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners Will Meet to Discuss the County's Business

The Government of Beaufort County meets every month for at least one general meeting to discuss and act on the county's business. Beaufort County employs the county manager form of government which stipulates that the board of county commissioners allow the county manager to set the agenda, and bring issues before them.

The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners will meet to discuss a variety of issues in their general meeting on Monday, June 3, 2013. This is the twelfth general meeting post-budget, when the Beaufort County Commissioners, by a vote of 5 to 2, elected to make no serious cuts of the budget and borrow even deeper from the county's fund balance.

This general meeting, considering all matters of the most essential importance of the year will be the most important meeting of the last 12 months. To that extent, the Beaufort County Commissioners' budget deliberations will culminate tonight with a probable vote taking place to decide the fiscal fate of the county and how much will its citizens be asked to pay to finance that ambition to govern, as prescribed by a majority of these county commissioners.

Resolution to Continue the Global War on Terror

Whereas, the Global War on Terror effectively began on September 11, 2001, when Islamic Extremists, planned and led by Al-Qaeda, made war against the Republic of these States United by the murdering of innocents in New York City, Alexandria, Virginia, and in a rocky field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and,

Whereas, conflicts were engaged on multiple fronts, as well as two specific theaters of war - in Iraq and in Afghanistan, and,

Whereas, while these conflicts are quite expensive in terms of financial resources, and, moreover, human capital, it is prudent and necessary to keep Americans safe at home and abroad in a very dangerous world, where we have many fanatical enemies, who despise peace and, similarly, hate freedom, and,

Whereas, since November, 2009, there continues to be a threat from terror attacks on our sovereign soil, as evidenced by recent attacks: Fort Hood, Benghazi, the Boston Marathon Bombings, and,

Whereas, the Obama Administration has taken the initiative to declare that the Global War on Terror against those, who despise peace and hate freedom, should now come to an end, as stated by Mr. Obama on March 23, 2013, who specifically commented, "but this war, like all wars, must end - that's what history advises; that's what our democracy demands.", and,

Whereas, most successful wars, waged in the annals of mankind, have desirable outcomes when there is a clear victor, and there is a clear vanquished foe, who surrenders unconditionally; however, that desired outcome will probably never occur in this Global War on Terror since our foe is the ever changing face of radical Islam, and,

Whereas, the vast consensus of our Warrior Leaders contend that the Global War on Terror should continue, unabated, and America will remain in a position of vulnerability if we do not remain diligent in our efforts to combat this threat by remaining on an appropriate war footing, and,

Whereas, it is the primary objective of our commander-in-chief to prosecute all appropriate actions to keep us, and our Republic, safe from the malevolent actions of all enemies foreign and domestic, therefore,

Let us be resolved to request that our commander-in-chief, as is his constitutional duty to do so, continue this war against those who would do us great harm, and would, through their xenophobic zeal, wipe us from the face of this earth as infidels to their great Muslim cause.

Written by Beaufort County Commissioner Stan Deatherage, and submitted for passage on June 3, 2013. Copies of this ratified resolution to be sent to our congressional delegation, the leadership of the house and senate, and to the president of the Unites States.
