Southside High School Senior in Fatal Accident in Beaufort County | Eastern North Carolina Now

Wednesday, January 5, 2011 the Southside High School Senior, Sarah Edwards, past away after her car and a log truck collided on Chandler Road. Chandler road is just off of Highway 17 towards Craven county. I knew the Edwards for many years; I knew Sarah when she was just a little girl when I was friends with her older sister Heather Edwards. I remember going to their home and going to little Sarah's birthday party at Wichards' Beach. She was a very fun loving kid and her prospects of pursuing culinary school makes complete sense because she always did love to cook. I know the Edwards must be going through a terrible time right now, but they will be surrounded by friends and family. Heather was the glue in her family, and I know the bond within their family will grow stronger as they deal with this difficult time.

It's hard enough to deal with a family member passing away, let alone in a tragic accident. The amount of publicity her accident has received may possibly be making things more difficult. The reports that I have seen from news reports all seem very cold and mainly focus on the fact that she was supposedly texting at the time of her death. The media is focusing more on the fact that she was texting, rather than the fact that a young girl has died. I don't agree with how they are using her to try and make an example of this horrible incident, although it is a huge wake up for young teens and people in general about the dangers of texting. However, they should approach this event with a little more compassion and realize they are talking about a human being and not just "Ohh she was texting".

Sarah Edwards' funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.

Her visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home in Washington.

I haven't been in touch with the Edwards in several years, but when I heard what had happened I had to do something. So this is my small tribute to Sarah Edwards and her family... My hopes + best wishes are with you.
