Guess again! GOP may have won VA state senate control | Eastern North Carolina Now

Democrat lied about residncy, may be disqualified, giveing GOP the seat

ENCNow

A Democrat candidate's lies about where she acually lives may cost Democrats one of the state senate seats in Virginia they thought they won election night.  Democrat Ghazala Hashmi rented an apartment in the district she ran in but was never there while continuing to live in her $600,000 home in a neighboring district

Further sinking the Democrat, she failed to even list the home she owned and actually lived in on her statement of assets, a felony that also shows her intent to deceive on where she actually lives.  If her candidacy is disqualified on a challenge to her residency, the seat would be awarded to her Republican opponent..

A similar result happened here in Beaufort County some years ago. Charles Boyette listed a rental house in Belhaven as his residence, but actually lived in a nice waterfront home outside of town. His residence in the town of Belhaven was challenged in Beaufort County Supreior Court and a jury unanimously found that he was not a legal resident of Belhaven, so he was stripped of the town council seat he held.
