    Paul Harrington Wetmore of 317 Sampson Street, Raleigh, NC died on Monday, April 29, 2012 at The Oaks at Mayview.

    He was born November 30, 1919 in Salisbury, NC to the late Bertha Watson and John Harrington Wetmore. Mr. Wetmore attended Woodleaf High School and received a BS agriculture degree from NC State College in the class of 1940. He was on the rifle team for four years and the 4th Corp rifle team for the National Rifle matches in 1939. Was recognized as Most Military Cadet in 1940. Mr. Wetmore remained active in NC State University academic affairs, and served as president of the Forever Club. He was also a member of the Wolfpack Club and remained a lifelong fan of his beloved Wolfpack.

    As a United States Army veteran, he served during WWII, in the Pacific Theatre. He remained active in the Army Reserves and served as the Operations Officer at the Raleigh USAR School for 11 years before retiring as Lt. Colonel, Military Intelligence in 1968. He was a lifetime member of the Retired Officer's Association. He was a Past President of Rutherfordton Jaycees, member of St. Francis Episcopal church, Sunday school teacher and superintendent (four years) and member of the vestry.

    As an active member of The Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal church where he served several terms on the Vestry and was a Senior Warden, Sunday School Teacher served as Sunday School Superintendent for 38 years was a Lay Reader and Chalicist.

    During his 43 years service with the USDA he served as County Supervisor, FHA at Rutherfordton, Statesville, and Raleigh. He was District Director at Rutherfordton and retired in 1983 as District Director in Raleigh.

    Mr. Wetmore was an active volunteer, he was recognized by both Governor Hunt and Governor Perdue for his many years of service with Meals on Wheels, the Ark Shelter, and the NC Democratic Party. He was also a founding board member of the Raleigh Academy.

    He married Lucille Allen on December 6, 1941-the day before Pearl Harbor. They were married 71 years before she passed in January, 2013. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Watson, William Franklin and James Badger (killed in the battle of the bulge) and three sisters, twin sister Pauline W. Arey, Mary Emma W. Lyerly, and Annie W. Thomoson.

    He is survived by three children. Paul H. Wetmore, Jr. (Carolyn), Bath, NC. Kay W. Stallings, Raleigh, NC and John A. Wetmore of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren, Heather S. Sebahar (Ken), Lindsay Wetmore-Arkader (Alex), Graham H. Stallings, Paul H. Wetmore, III (fiancée Haley); five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held at The Church of the Good Shepherd Thursday May 2nd at 12:30 pm.

The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm in Shepherd's Hall at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Montlawn.
