For Immediate Release: Weather Advisory

Good Afternoon:

Please stay weather aware over the weekend for a possible Nor'easter which could form just off shore in South Carolina and begin moving Northwest next Wednesday and could provide a very wet and windy problem here in Beaufort County for about 36 hours. If you have scheduled outdoor activities for next week this storm could impact on your decision matrix for that event.

The models the NWS uses to help predict the weather are both currently in basic agreement that there will be a Nor'easter type of event, however the timing and exact tract do indicate some variance in both.

We should have a more clear picture of this storm system by Monday morning. In discussions with the forecasters it appears likely 80% of the precipitation will be rainfall with a slight risk of possible sleet or very light snow.

As is always the case we will monitor the weather all weekend and if something develops that would indicate an earlier arrival or more definitive guidance is given which warrants a weather update to you we will issue a weather awareness notice prior to Monday morning.

I do want to remind everyone that next week is the 2013 North Carolina Severe Weather Awareness Week.

A statewide Tornado EAS Alert drill will take place Wednesday March 6th at 9:30 am and will be just a drill. This year, North Carolina's Severe Weather Awareness Week coincides with the National Severe Weather Preparedness Week. NWS web sites will have updated preparedness information provided on their site this coming week.

Should the Tornado drill need to be postponed, as result of actual severe weather occurring in an area, then March 8th at 9:30am would be the date for the Tornado drill.

I hope each of you have safe weekend and please stay weather aware.

Latest Governing Beaufort County

While this afternoon’s update once again included increased probabilities of moderate to major impacts, it will likely be tomorrow before we receive specific accumulation details.
Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
Beaufort County is implementing a new emergency alert system. All residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts via phone and email.
