Ms. Alicia Eren Payne, age 89, a resident of Bath, NC passed on peacefully at her home on Friday, September 23, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, NC.

Ms. Payne was born in Washington D.C. on August 23, 1933, daughter of the late Mustafa Alaeddin Eren and the late Alice Ravenell Febrey. She was a 1951 graduate of Washington and Lee High School. She worked as a secretary in the industries of banking, legal and federal. Over her professional career Alicia achieved many accolades and awards for outstanding performance and dedication.

Her true passion was horses. In 1970 she and her husband Ed built a home on twenty acres in Fairfax County VA where three of her horses were kept. Not long after, out buildings, fencing and a barn sprang up. By 1978 a horse breeding business had been started. Ed, her two sons Alan and Robert were all engulfed in her vision and Alicia's dream had come into full bloom.

Ms. Payne's passion led her on a journey of epic and herculean proportions. After years of work and tenacity, she was able to get four bills and three resolutions passed in the Commonwealth for multi-use trails throughout the state. In Fairfax County alone there are over 1400 miles of multi-use trails thanks to her efforts.

In 1990 feeling the pressures of encroaching development, Alicia traded in her barn for a boat dock moving to Lake of the Woods in Orange County Va. She spent many hours cruising the coastlines or pulling her grandchildren on toys, skis or wakeboards. It did not take long however before she joined the equine committee to once again sate her passion. She also enjoyed many hours with the Solos Club, Red Hats and Card Game groups.

Surviving her are her children: Alan Payne and Robert Payne; grandchildren: Garrett Payne, Deanna Payne, Jeremy Payne, Zach Payne, Logan Payne, Annaliese Payne; daughter-in-law: Margaret Payne; cousins: Colin Payne and Janice McNulty and Knucklehead the cat.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.paulfuneralhome.com

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Payne family.
