Senate Leader Commends Steinburg as “Tireless Advocate for His District” Who Improved Prison Safety

ENCNow
Press Release:

EDENTON, NC     State Senator Bob Steinburg (R-Edenton) officially resigned from the State Senate on Sunday, July 31, 2022 after a decade of public service in the State House and Senate. From his first election in 2012, Steinburg focused relentlessly on constituent service, conservative reform, and investment in the Northeastern counties he's represented. In his House and Senate tenure, Steinburg served Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington Counties.

"Bob has been an integral part of our team over the past four years," stated NC Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger. "He was a tireless advocate for his district and went to bat to improve prison safety across our state. I'm thankful for the work he has done during his time in the Senate."

"Other than loving and leading my family, I have had no higher privilege than serving the good people of the Northeast. I stepped forward to run when our state faced budget deficits and record unemployment. Our people were hurting and their values were under attack. We had to make drastic changes to state government, and I'm proud to say, my colleagues and I didn't back down from deceitful smear attacks or anything that stood in the way of transforming our state. I promised voters that I would serve as a Christian, conservative, and Republican - in that order. I've put my heart and soul into that promise by showing up across the district, learning how I could help, and working until we got the change needed."

During his tenure, Steinburg was singled out by the State Employees Association of North Carolina as "Legislator of the Year," by the NC Chamber of Commerce for his "pro-jobs effectiveness," by the American Conservative Union as a "Defender of Liberty," and with "the Rocky Balboa award" from his colleagues in the Senate Republican Caucus.

He also led the effort to attract new manufacturing and processing jobs to the local economy by partnering the state with the Virginia Port Authority's Port of Norfolk and expanding the Foreign Trade Zone status to include Northeastern North Carolina. Additionally, among Steinburg's top accomplishments are passage of a voter ID law, measures that strengthen law-abiding citizens' 2nd Amendment rights, and comprehensive tax reform that eliminated loopholes, lowered every corporate and individuals' income tax rate, and abolished the estate tax. Steinburg noted he is particularly proud of the estate tax repeal because North Carolina was the only state in the Southeast with an estate tax, which particularly hurts family-owned farms. The nonpartisan Tax Foundation credited Steinburg's tax reform efforts with improving the state's business tax climate from 44th worst to 11th best in the country.

After recently celebrating their 50th anniversary, Steinburg looks forward to spending more time with his wife, Marie. In 2023, he will transition his service for Northeastern North Carolina into government relations and public affairs.
