Out on a Political Limb, What Happens Next?

I have a Wednesday deadline to submit this article to the Compass for printing. The Election is on Tuesday with a good possibility there will be only a few candidates with enough votes counted to declare winners. This situation puts a political writer like me in a pickle. I wanted to write about what all of us should be doing after the election. I wanted to lay out a definite regimented plan of action. After considering what should be done if Obama were to win or Romney won, and looking at plans of action should Democrats win or Republicans in the other elections, I discovered the action plan was the same whoever won. Only the names of those elected would change.

From the White House through the State House and into the Dog Catchers House the problems are all the same. We are spending too much money at every level of government. We have empowered millions of bureaucrats to supervise our every move from what goes into children's lunch boxes to how to build automobiles. There is no person or company in the entire nation that does not have some unearned benefit granted from government, whether it is a tax break or an outright handout. Our systems of government at every level are too big and too expensive. Half of us work to feed the other half. We have allowed socialism to gain a huge foothold. Its cousin communism cannot be far behind. These are the conditions facing every elected official from dog catcher to president. The battle lines are drawn between conservatives and liberals. There are many subsets and interest groups within the conservative and liberal movements, but every interest group clearly fits either the conservative or liberal mold.

Conservatives would like to think Romney will resolve all of our issues for us. Do not be fooled by having our man in the White House, should Romney win. Remember George W. Bush. He was our man. List the liberal things he rolled back. Name the conservative battles he actually won. At the end of the day he maintained the status quo. He was a gate keeper. He failed miserably in the most important job he had. He put the full force of the Republican Party behind keeping liberal Republican Senator Arlan Specter from Pennsylvania in office, supposedly so he could chair the Judiciary Committee in order to get us a conservative Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. John Roberts, who was appointed as our conservative, worked for Bush in the White House. Bush should have known this guy was a liberal. Guess what happened. Chief Justice Roberts looked conservative until Obama Care and the Arizona immigration cases came before the Court. Chief Justice Roberts was the tie breaker. He voted liberal on both cases.

My message is do not trust anyone when it comes to the preservation of the Constitution and the principles on which this Nation was founded. It seems the more faith we are asked to put into these high powered individuals the more we are disappointed. In order that we take back our government and restore the conservative principles of the Constitution we can never close even one political eye. Because the actions of elected officials are constantly open to public observation, we can see the earliest signs of betrayal. Do not allow anyone to justify the behavior of elected officials as being necessary under the present political conditions or part of a larger master plan designed to make our political enemy relax so we can prevail. I heard these excuses made for George W. Bush over and over. Compromise is not an option when core principles are involved. We, individually and as a group, must react promptly and with political force to let all public officials know when they are off base.

The greatest risk to those who are dedicated to reversing socialism is to be side tracked or to run up blind alleys. One of those blind alleys is to be lured into getting Democrats to register as Republicans or unaffiliated. It makes no difference how one is registered, especially in our present political climate. It is how they vote that counts. Both parties are weak, but the Democrat Party is loosing members faster than the Republican Party, and will continue to do so regardless of what anyone does.

The political revolution should be to allow the establishment of any number of other political parties so both the Republican and Democrat Parties have some competition. There is nothing in the Constitution or Bill of Rights or any other legislation that limits this Nation, State or County to only two political parties. The reason we have only two effective parties is both the Democrat and Republican Parties have joined together to pass laws that make it very difficult to establish even a third party much less several splinter parties. Almost every nation on earth has more than two political parties. Even those that are politically regressive. One thing Republicans and Democrats agree on is shutting down the opposition parties. It happened right here in North Carolina this year when the Republican candidate for Governor, Pat McCroy and Democrat Walter Dalton refused to allow the Libertarian candidate, who was on the ballot, to participate in their debates. This is heavy handed stuff and probably would not be constitutional.

The party bosses will tell you that other parties are not shut out. The last time I checked one would need more than 80,000 certified signatures of registered voters on a petition to run for any state wide office. Even to run as a third party county commissioner candidate in Beaufort County more than 1,600 signatures are required. Why do you think all of those people are called "unaffiliated" as to political party. They have no where to go and they are disgusted with both parties.

Don't waste your time on getting Democrats to become Republicans. Spend your time lobbying to make it easier for third, fourth or fifth parties to get on the ballot. Other parties on the ballot will do wonders for the character of both the Republican and Democrat parties.

Use your telephone, e-mail and US Postal Service to complain and object at every opportunity to elected officials from school board to the President at the first sign of violating their campaign promises or the principles of the Constitution. George Bush, the senior, violated his campaign promise not to raise taxes and lost his second term. George W. Bush, during his first administration, tried to give illegal migrants citizenship. This proposal got stopped quickly. A White House insider said the switch board lit up like a Christmas Tree. You, the private citizen, stopped that one. We have power if we use it. Don't wait on the movement to start, if you have a concern complain to all elected officials.

Participate in and support your conservative political clubs, maybe start one, and the Tea Party. Only through activism will we get our nation back. Above all do not relax even if conservatives get elected at any level. We have been sold out mostly by supposed conservatives.
