Beauty Pageant Winner, Conservative Activist Died After Fall From 3rd Story Window, Police Say | Eastern North Carolina Now

    On Tuesday, police stated that Zoe Sozo Bethel, the deeply religious Christian beauty pageant winner who also served as a conservative political commentator, died of head injuries after falling out of a third-floor window of a Miami condo of a seven-story residential building.

    Bethel, who had a five-year-old daughter, died on Friday; at that point neither the police nor her family would give the reason for her death. "Police said that the model's horror plunge was investigated as a suicide attempt after a preliminary investigation revealed she fell from a third-floor window," The Daily Mail reported.

    But on Tuesday afternoon the Miami Police Department released a statement:

    On Friday, February 11, 2022 at approximately 12:05 am, Miami Police Officers responded to a call of a possible suicide attempt. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim fell out of a third-floor window. The victim was identified as 27-year-old, Zoe Sozo Bethel. She was transported by Miami Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. On Friday, February 18, 2022 at 5:24 a.m., Zoe Sozo Bethel succumbed to her injuries. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as "Blunt Force Trauma" and the manner of death is "Accidental." This was a tragic accident, and no foul play is suspected.

    Bethel's family released their own statement on Tuesday in which they stated, according to The Daily Mail:

    She was growing and becoming more successful each year of her life, and she was only just beginning. And if she had a choice, she would still be here with us today. ... As is common with any death that is not due to natural causes, law enforcement will conduct an investigation into the cause of death. Thus, the investigation into the cause of Zoe's death is part of the normal protocol for law enforcement, and is still open and pending. ... The initial police report is simply preliminary and is not conclusive, and is further absent specific facts from eyewitness testimony that would alter the "incident type" status listed on the preliminary police report. ... The family reserves the right to release information as is appropriate in conjunction with the investigation and will make certain necessary information available at the conclusion of the investigation.

    On January 19, Zoe Bethel posted on social media, "One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying," as Newsweek reported.

    Last December, as The Sun noted, Zoe Bethel posted on social media:

    I was evaluating the earlier years of my life focusing on all the mistakes I've made, and the consequences of disobedience. I felt discouraged/ disappointed with all I haven't achieved by my age. Feeling regretful. ... I am reminded to look at the bigger picture and admire all that God has done for me. Focusing on his promises and remaining steady in the faith to continue this journey of life guided by him. This year has passed like lightning. I am hopeful for what is to come, although I struggle with planning properly (free-spirited) I intend to tackle that flaw and get a better grip of 2022!
