New VA poll - GOP's Youngkin leads former Dem. Gov. McAuliffe | Eastern North Carolina Now

after several polls showed a toss up, this is the first to show GOP lead

With Virginians going to the polls in six weeks for their off year election for governor, the latest poll, from Mary Washington University, shows GOP political newcomer Glenn Youngkin surging into a lead against former Democrat Governor and Clinton operative Terry McAuliffe.  Among likely voters, Youngkin leads McAuliffe  48% to 43%, outside the 4 point margin of error.

Several recent polls have shown the race a toss up, with the candidates statistically tied within the margin of error.

Virginia will also elect all seats in its House of Delegates this November.

Another encouraging sign in Virginia is that slightly more Republicans are early voting than Democrats. Traditionally, Republicans vote on election day and Democrats in early voting. In 2020, Democrats won early voting by 30 points over Republicans, for example. freebeacon.com
