Things That Make Noise in the Night, Part XII | Eastern North Carolina Now

We do not have to lay awake at night and listen for noises that are so faint we wonder whether we heard something or we imagined we heard something.

We do not have to lay awake at night and listen for noises that are so faint we wonder whether we heard something or we imagined we heard something. Sort of like you are dozing off and ad you are just not sure whether the noise was real or imagined. The past couple of weeks have left no doubt about whether the noise was real or imagined. Plaster has been falling.

Governor Perdue signed a bill requiring high school students to have CPR training and know the Heimlich maneuver before receiving a high school diploma. She says it will same lives. I agree. Consider all of the other thing schools do for students. We feed them breakfast, lunch and a lot of them get a snack after school. There are requirements for physical education and field trips. They get counseling on just about anything they want to talk about. Notice there is less and less effort put into teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. When will Governor Perdue sign a bill that requires education in the school system?

Here are a few suggestions for the Governor. Require all students be able to balance a check book by the 8th grade. Require all students to complete a course in civics with emphasis on how modern government and the court system is organized . Require all students to pass a basic examination on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Sign a bill opting North Carolina out of the Federal "No Child Left Behind Program" so we can get back to basic education. Sign a bill requiring only principles based on proven scientific fact may be presented so we can get away from the brain washing of environmental opinion. Sign a bill requiring every student to be taught the principles of the scientific method. Do not get excited. This last one has nothing to do with sex. It teaches the student how to use proofs and fact to determine the truth of an idea or concept.

Perdue also signed a bill requiring at least one automatic external defibrillator unit in every state building and employees are to be trained to use them. Can anyone even begin to estimate the cost of this? Think of the liability on the State and you the tax payer. How long and at what cost will it take to train people to use these? Who will make sure they are ready to go at all times? What happened to all those laws about emergency services and availability? Don't cities and counties provide emergency services? What if someone uses this thing and instead of helping actually kill or damages you? Does the Governor spend any time thinking or is she just doing good things for us?

Another plaster cracking thud is the Chick-Fil-A controversy. I have never bought anything at Chick Filet, but I will now. A friend once got this advice: "Keep your mouth shut and no one will know how dumb you are". This has to do with the Chief of Chick-Fil-A making a public statement that he supported the Christian Bible taught position on gay issues. Rahm Emmanuel who is the Mayor of Chicago, the Mayor of Boston and several other big shot politicians should apologize to the American public for showing their ignorance about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They violated everything in the book when they said they would do all they could to keep Chick-Fil-A out of their town. These are the same people who embrace all the Civil Rights laws at every turn. They proved how biased and prejudiced they are with their statements. How ignorant and uneducated of our system of laws and government can you become ? What about free speech? This is proof that we need to judge our elected officials harshly when they give proof of their ignorance on constitutional issues.
