Bryant Dewey Walker, 91, formerly of Washington, died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Dewey was born in 1929 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to George Dewey Walker and Margaret Bryant Walker. The family moved to Williamstown, MA soon after, and he grew up and attended school there. Dewey graduated from Williams College with a degree in Geology in 1951 and spent his career working as a geologist for a minerals exploration company. He was one of the first to locate the phosphate deposit now being mined in Beaufort County. His work for North Carolina Phosphate Company brought him and his family to Washington in 1962. Except for a four-year period away in Minneapolis and Tucson in the early 1970's, they lived in several homes in Shady Banks and Washington Park until a move in August 2020 to Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, NC. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Washington and had served as lay reader, vestry member and Sr. Warden there. For many years he served also as a lay eucharistic visitor to those unable to attend church services. His visits with these men and women were a great enjoyment to him. He said the stories they told enriched his life.

Known for his laugh and enjoyment of life and family, he is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Barbara King Walker, daughter Sarah (Billy) Anderson, and son Clay Walker and his wife Revoy (Toby) Hamilton, grandchildren Jade Walker, Kate Anderson and Walker Anderson, step granddaughter Niche Sanderson and step great granddaughter Hollie Clark.

Due to Covid restrictions there will be no public memorial service at this time. His ashes will be placed in St. Peter's Episcopal Church Chapel Garden.

Memorials in his name may be made to Eagle's Wings Food Pantry, PO Box 426, Washington, NC 27889, or to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, PO Box 985, Washington, NC 27889, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.paulfuneralhome.com

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Walker family.
