So this is what has become of the Republican party ... | Eastern North Carolina Now

I shouldn't care really. I have often worked harder for a cause than the cause actually deserved. It is my nature, I suppose, to toil in the vineyards diligently, and know strongly my purpose, which at one time was to do my best to actually help my Republican party to stand for something.

I shouldn't care really. I have often worked harder for a cause than the cause actually deserved. It is my nature, I suppose, to toil in the vineyards diligently, and know strongly my purpose, which at one time was to do my best to actually help my Republican party to stand for something tangible, real. My mistake was that I did once expect that others take all of this as seriously as I did, and, I still do.

The difference between people like me and other people, like Congressman Walter Jones, is that they did not ever take what the Republican Party once stood for seriously, and they still don't, but that is the nature of these folks, and like a Zebra's stripes, they can never be changed. These opportunists see a serviceable brand, such as Ronald Reagan's Republican party, and they consider how to use that brand to achieve their desired end, which, in the case of Walter Jones, was to get elected to the United States Congress, and, likewise, for Arthur Williams to get elected to the North Carolina House. For me, and others like me in those heady days of the Republican party, still basking in the long shadow of retired President Ronald Reagan, it was about building the Republican brand, making it strong, powerful for the good of all right-minded people.

Here is the questionable flyer announcing the infamous endorsement - Arthur Williams (left) and Walter Jones (right) - two kindred spirits: Above.

For Walter Jones it meant something totally different: He just wanted to grow up to a congressman, like his dad, Walter Jones, Sr., and there is nothing wrong with that, provided Walter had remained a Democrat. He had already served multiple terms under the Democrat brand in the North Carolina Senate; it was working for him. It just would not continue to work for him to be elected to the congress of these United States. He needed the Republican brand to achieve that end in the 3rd District, and consequently, "Young Republicans (YRs)," such as myself, worked for Walter's success, because we just accepted, on face value, that he took his new brand as a Republican as seriously as we did - the selfless party faithful.

Understanding quite well Walter's less than stellar voting record, and his endorsement of a bona fide northeastern RINO, Arthur Williams, spells quite clearly to those of us who can actually perceive complex Conservative thought, and act accordingly, Walter is definitely not one of us. Maybe he never was.

Heck, it was a good run Walter. What is it now, 9 terms in office, after you agreed to Speaker Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" to limit your service to, what was it, 6 consecutive terms; whatever that number is: You would know - you signed the document. Walter, is it not finally the time to honor that agreement, long neglected, and do as an "Honorable" man would do? I live in a political world, where I will only support a "Honorable" man to represent me. I take all this most seriously, and I, obviously, wished you did as well.

Therefore, quite intuitively, I will not be supporting your endorsed candidate, Arthur Williams, either, for any elected office - not in, or from, my Republican party - the one I toiled so long to build here Downeast. It's just that, well ... maybe I really do care after all ... this much to write what I definitely mean right here, and moreover, I do believe I will continue to care, here and now, and as long I as draw the breath of a loyal Republican - the real kind. There are a good many of us left, and slowly, but most surely ... our numbers are growing. These are folks that will stick on the principles that bind "Honorable" men and women. You'll see.

Ditto Betty,

It is remarkable how much we think alike.

It is also remarkable how we have both been leaders of our Beaufort County political parties: You with the Democrats and me with the Republicans.

Defining Arthur Williams: Loyalty and Ethics Begone!!! I'll do anything, be anything, say anything that you want me to!! I am a follower, not a leader. I have no original thoughts. I am a lackey.

You know, I quit supporting Walter in primaries after he broke his self-obligation to term limits.

I get really creeped out by politicians who cannot be genuine about their solemn promises, their agreements with others.

Actually, I don't tolerate anyone who lies. They can be dangerous people with lives on the line, or money on the table.

When you get older time is special, and liars just tend to waste everyone's time they come into contact with.

So, I am certainly not about to vote for a politician, who will not rise above this manner of behavior.

Walter has gone beyond the pale this time. Endorsing liberal Democrat Williams is little different than endorsing liberal Democrat Obama. Walter's voting record has gone to hell in a hand basket, and now hs is endorsing Democrat ''Trojan Horse'' candidates. Walter has finally gone too far in brownnosing the establishment. Next time we need a serious primary opponent to Jones to take him out. He has made his bed and now he can lie in it. I have always supported Jones in the primaries, but not after this. Absolutely not!
