Publisher's note: This post, by the Civitas Staff, is a Press Release of Civitas.

The Civitas Institute called for the American people to redouble their efforts to overthrow the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling today that upheld most of the law, putting the U.S. health care system largely under federal control.

"The Supreme Court may have ruled against us but the fight is not over," said Karen Duquette, director of legislative affairs for the Civitas Institute. "First of all, the Court revealed what President Obama long denied: Americans will be paying a new tax to fund this plan. Yet far from controlling spending, the federal takeover of health care will result in $1.15 trillion in new spending in Washington. And Washington bureaucrats also will have much more power to tell doctors and patients what to do about the most personal aspects of their lives.

"We can do better, by overturning the law and instead enacting patient-centered reform that gives Americans control of their health while also eliminating waste and fraud."

In response to the ruling, the Civitas Institute today launched a petition drive, Repeal Obamacare Now! To let the President know how you feel about the health care law, go online to sign the Repeal Obamacare Now! petition today.

Plus, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, join Americans for Prosperity and the Civitas Institute at the Crabtree Valley Marriott in Raleigh for our Hands Off Our Health Care! rally. That will be North Carolinians' chance to tell President Obama we need free-market health care solutions, not another government takeover. Speakers will include:

    Congresswoman Renee Ellmers

Jeanette Doran, from the NC Institute for Constitutional Law

Jason Rink, executive director of the Foundation for a Free Society

Experts from Civitas and Americans For Prosperity

More information on the Civitas Institute is available at www.nccivitas.org, or contact Jim Tynen at (919) 834-2099.
