Steyer Throws in the Towel After 3rd-Place Finish in SC | Eastern North Carolina Now

I can remember individuals like Tom Steyer from my days as a political consultant.

These were people who had achieved private sector success but were, in late middle age, bored. They wanted to put their money to use to get themselves a new gig where the ego stroke was as much or more so than it was at the firms they ran.

Thus, for good and bad, they chose politics. Good for my former self, as they paid big. Bad, in that they thought their former expertise naturally transferred over to political operations. It didn't. But they were sure it did and were adamant about it.

At that point you had two choices. You could take their money and do their moronic bidding, knowing they would lose. Or you could honestly read them the riot act and hope they saw reason, knowing for opening your yap you could lose the contract.

Most operatives, including me, took the money and made the best of it. And that's what Steyer's people did. It's a big reason he placed third in South Carolina and then got out of the race.

He was a one-trick pony, impeachment. After Pelosi stole his thunder he had no reason to politically live. But sure his impeachment win, not conviction win, would make him a hero to the Democrat rank and file he jumped in the race and spent a lot to just look hysterical and foolish.

There wasn't one trendy Democrat fad he did not embrace. Reparations? Sure. Repeal Trump tax cuts? Uh-huh, regardless of the politically suicidal aspect of the idea. Global warming, climate change, whatever they're calling it this week? Of course. He couldn't let a crazy notion go by without making out with it behind the bleachers.

In the end the very nothingness of his message, appeal, and candidacy caught up with him. His unfortunate hip-hop dance routine, that we covered yesterday, was the final embarrassing nail in the coffin for this political non-entity.

Go back to making money, Tom. You seem to be good at it. Just leave the country out of it. We have enough idiots to deal with already.
