Dems Announce Two Articles of Impeachment Against Trump | Eastern North Carolina Now

    House Democrats on Tuesday morning announced two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, with a focus on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

    The House Judiciary Committee is slated to vote on these articles later in the week.

    That would set up a full House vote next week, as numerous media outlets are reporting.

    Notably absent from the planned charges was a "bribery" count, as Fox News and other outlets pointed out.

    The president himself responded on Twitter to the Tuesday morning news with two words: "Witch Hunt!"

    In a statement on Tuesday morning, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel gave this reply, as shared with LifeZette by email: "First Democrats promised 'collusion,' but there was none."

    "After 'quid pro quo' failed, their focus groups told them to try 'bribery,' but there was none."

    "Nancy Pelosi can invent whatever false charges she wants," McDaniel continued, "but the American people see this for what it is: yet another partisan attempt to overthrow a duly elected president and rob voters of the chance to re-elect him in 2020."

    In a news conference this morning declaring the articles of impeachment, Democrats said the president put his personal political interests ahead of the country's national security by pressuring the country of Ukraine to investigate his political rivals.

    In that comment, they're referencing the July 25 phone call that the president had with Ukraine president Volodymr Zelenksy - but Trump never mentioned an American election on that call, nor was there any quid pro quo regarding military aid.

    Zelensky himself has said repeatedly he felt no pressure at all from that phone call.

    House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Monday "convened the House chairmen leading the impeachment inquiry in her office," Politico reported.

    That meeting followed the Judiciary Committee hearing held on Monday that was televised to the nation.

    President Trump will be holding a rally with supporters and others on Tuesday night in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
