Trump and the Dems’ Impeachment Push: White House Hopeful They Will ‘Come to Their Senses’ | Eastern North Carolina Now

    For those who may have missed a key interview on Friday, the highlights here are worth sharing, as White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham shared the latest views of President Donald Trump and his administration in clear terms.

    Speaking on the Fox News Channel program "America's Newsroom," Grisham was forthright and clear about the White House's reaction to the rush toward impeachment by Democrats in the House of Representatives.

    "We are still obviously hopeful that everybody will come to their senses and realize that the president did nothing wrong," Grisham said on Friday.

    "But we are prepared for an impeachment to happen, yes ... Yes, I mean, [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [of California] has made it very, very clear that the House Democrats are going to vote."

    "I mean, starting from the beginning, with all of their closed-door meetings and the way they've had their selective leaks with their witnesses, this has been set up to ... impeach the president."

    "So that's something that we're expecting - but we can always hope that the Dems will, again, come to their senses. They know the president did nothing wrong, and we have so much work to do on behalf of the American people. So we're hoping that they'll come to their senses and do that, but also we'll see what happens."

    And she referenced the "stupid impeachment sham" in terms of what Democratic lawmakers have been doing regarding the latest push against President Trump.

    And on whether President Trump will host a Roosevelt-style "fireside chat" reading of the July 25 phone call transcript with Ukrainian President Zelensky, as Trump said in an interview with the Washington Examiner: "I'm sure it's always a serious consideration," she said. "I don't know what the logistics of it would look like just yet. But in the meantime, again, we released the transcript. The president has nothing to hide and he has been so transparent."

    "He has answered every question," she added.

    "He has talked to the news media about this over and over again. We're the ones who are being left out of the process. We're the ones who are not able to see what people are saying and be able to adequately defend ourselves."

    "I don't have any timing there," she also said. "I'm not going to get ahead of the president on that one. But anything he says is always in consideration ... He's got nothing to hide. I mean, I think that's the point that's not getting across is that the president did nothing wrong and has nothing to hide. So why wouldn't he read the transcript of a call that was fine - it's already public - to show people the context of what was going on?"

    (As Trump told the Examiner recently, "At some point, I'm going to sit down, perhaps as a fireside chat on live television, and I will read the transcript of the call, because people have to hear it. When you read it, it's a straight call.")

    Regarding terror, ISIS, and the organization's apparent naming of a new leader, "The president made it very, very clear" last week that the U.S. "will keep up pressure on ISIS," she also said.

    So "I can assure you that the president is monitoring everything that's going on" regarding any new leadership there, she said.

    Grisham was also asked when she'll hold the next official White House press briefing. That's not something that's happened very often as of late - as Trump speaks virtually every day, if not several times throughout the day, to members of the press during various events and during transitions and trips.

    "Whenever it's time," she responded on this issue.

    "I think, right now, we're doing just fine. The president continues to speak to the American people. He continues to speak to the press, so do I ... My press team and I are available 24/7," added Grisham. "There is no plan right now. But as with anything in our White House, that could change in five minutes."
