‘When God Is Our Greatest Desire, We Are Free’ | Eastern North Carolina Now

Because personal freedom is inextricably linked to the truth, it should come as no surprise that in a culture in which God is summarily rejected, so many people live like slaves.

So many are enslaved by unhealthy desires that consume their soul and then quickly fade into the twilight of disappointment.

Like a drug, these desires surround, rule, motivate - then eventually destroy what is precious.

    We let it happen.

    We like it.

    Otherwise we wouldn't do it.

We were created for so much more.

Maybe you don't believe your desires have enslaved you.

    The Jews didn't, either.

They said to Jesus, "We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, 'You will become free?'" (John 8:33)

Jesus answered them, "Everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin" (34).

Anything that we desire more than we desire God will enslave us.

God created us with desires. The best desire He gave us is a desire to know Him.

The problem is that we abuse ourselves with carnal desires because we wrongly believe they will be a satisfactory substitute for our soul's need for God.

    We're dead wrong.

So we live constantly enslaved by disappointment.

Jesus gave us this truth so we could be free: "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John‬ ‭8:31-32‬).

God's Word refines our desires and places them into His perspective.

When we measure the deepest desires of our soul by God's Word, He leads us on a path of satisfaction.

We are free from disappointment because our body, soul, and spirit are in sync with His Spirit.

When God is our greatest desire - we are free.

"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery" (Galatians‬ ‭5:1‬).
