   These latest announcements from the Southside High School, via the Beaufort County School System, reminds us that schools are a focal point of activity.

Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Competitive Events


   Nine students and two advisers from Southside High School attended the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Competitive Events Conference at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro from March 22-24. Tiara Lopez, a competitor in business communications, and Joseph Norfleet, a competitor in Accounting I, placed in the top ten in their events. In addition to competing in business-related events, students attended professional workshops.

Annual American Red Cross Blood Drive


   Southside High School held its annual American Red Cross blood drive on March 23. Thanks to the generous donations of students, faculty, staff, and community members, 51 units of blood were collected, exceeding the goal of 50 units.

The blood drive was sponsored by the Student Government Association, advised by Chynna Bonner, and the Nursing Fundamentals class, taught by Kathy Smith

Retina Hines received her Professional Standards Program renewal


   Retina Hines, receptionist/secretary at Southside High School, received her Professional Standards Program renewal at the state convention of the North Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals held March 15-16 in Greensboro.
Retina Hines
   PSP is a volunteer program of self-improvement and progressive professional growth with diversified incentives leading to the awarding of certificates for achievement in education, experience, and professional activities.

   A PSP certification renewal requires six years of consecutive membership in the NCAEOP and employment as an educational office professional.

   Professionals who receive this certification must accumulate sixty workshop hours, thirty of which must be sponsored by local, district, state, or national associations, and ten association responsibilities points, which are earned through membership in the association and service on committees or as officers.

Students meet the academic and extracurricular requirements for National Beta Club
