Participants shared a variety of positive responses about their experiences. Katie Boyd, who visited Pamlico Animal Hospital, said, “I got to see some surgeries for dogs and cats getting spayed and neutered. I was also able to check on their recovery.” Valarie Hodges, who shadowed at the Beaufort County Courthouse, said that her mentor “showed me around her office and then took me to the courthouse to observe the calendar for the day. I met the judge and saw the 157 files on the calendar.” Thomas Wainwright, who shadowed in the welding department at Beaufort County Community College, commented, “I actually did what I would do in the workforce. I welded a couple of beads across a piece of metal. My mentor said I would be the one he would transfer to a welding job at businesses like Hackney or Flanders Filters.”
