Dr. Greg Murphy Joins House Science Committee | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Washington, DC     House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas welcomed Congressman Greg Murphy of North Carolina to the Committee.

    "I'm happy to welcome Representative Greg Murphy to the Science, Space, and Technology Committee," said Ranking Member Frank Lucas. "As a physician, Greg has a unique perspective on the value of STEM education and how the basic research and development supported by this Committee keeps our country at the forefront of technological innovation. I'm looking forward to working with him on our shared priorities."

    "I'm privileged to join the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, and I thank Chairwoman Johnson and Ranking Member Lucas for this opportunity," Rep. Murphy said. "As a new Member of the Committee, I'm ready to get to work representing the interests of North Carolina's 3rd District, especially on issues to improve storm forecasting and preparedness. As a physician, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of maintaining U.S. leadership in the STEM field, and I look forward to championing this initiative with my colleagues."

    Murphy takes a spot on the vacated by Rep. Jenniffer González-Colón of Puerto Rico, who had been temporarily assigned to the Committee.

    "Jenniffer has been a valuable member of our team," Lucas said. "In her time on the Committee she was a strong advocate for our nation's scientific enterprise, particularly creating opportunities to encourage a diverse STEM workforce. I'm grateful for her service and I'm looking forward to continuing to work together on these important issues."

    While speaking on the Floor in support of the STEM Opportunities Act, González-Colón thanked Ranking Member Lucas and Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson for the opportunity to serve on the Committee.
