28 Days of GOP Inaction on Budget Compromise

Press Release:

RALEIGH: It has been 28 days since Governor Cooper proposed a budget compromise and urged Republican leaders to come to the negotiating table. And for 28 days, Republican leaders have refused to negotiate and said it's their way or the highway, while continuing to try and buy Democratic votes for an override.

Despite the fact that Democratic leaders have been clear that there is not support to override the Governor's veto, the House Republican leaders have once again put the override vote on today's calendar. Instead of another day of the same, legislative Republicans could be working with Governor Cooper to pass a compromise that does more for education and closes the health coverage gap instead of simply prioritizing earmarks and corporate tax cuts.

Governor Cooper has put forward a detailed compromise and said he is willing to discuss every issue in negotiations.
