The Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center offers a variety of special programs and activities to help cancer patients, survivors as well as their primary caregivers deal with the emotional and physical challenges associated with having cancer.

    Washington, NC     The Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center offers a variety of special programs and activities to help cancer patients, survivors as well as their primary caregivers deal with the emotional and physical challenges associated with having cancer. The Cancer Center's vision is to provide integrative therapies that complement traditional care at no cost to the participant. The programs are not limited to patients of the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, any survivor or caregiver is welcome!

    Two Journaling Opportunities:

    Shepard's Lunch & Learn     April 5th at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
    Join us at the Brown Library for lunch while you learn how keeping a personal journal can help you cope with the emotional challenges of your own or a loved one's cancer.

    Healing Words     Thursdays Beginning April 12th 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
    Join us again at the Brown Library for our 6-week complementary program designed for survivors and caregivers on how to cope with the emotions that cancer brings. Pre-registration is required. Each participant will receive a new, hand-made journal.

    Look Good...Feel Better     brought to you by the American Cancer Society - Monday, April 16th at 2:00pm
   A hands-on group session for adult female cancer survivors currently in treatment who are coping with the side effects of chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment. Pre-registration is required. Held at the Cancer Center.

    Healthy Living with Cancer     4 week educational program designed for cancer survivors and their caregivers.

    When held: April 3, 10, 17, & 24, 1:00 pm     Held at Vidant Wellness Center. Call the Cancer Center to register or for more information:

    Restorative Yoga and Meditation     A yoga class that emphasizes relaxation for the body, mind and spirit. Classes are open to all cancer patients, survivors, and primary caregivers. In Washington - held every Monday at 6:00pm at Vidant Wellness Center. Registration is not required. NEW! In Belhaven: held every Wednesday at 8:30am at the Belhaven Senior Center. Pre-registration is required - call (252) 943-2992.

    Therapeutic Massage     One free therapeutic foot, hand or chair massage is available every week to all cancer survivors and primary caregivers. Please call to make an appointment.
