Press Release:

"The experts said getting more than 20% of the vote in a 17 person race was nearly impossible. Tonight's victory is the next step in the process of my desire to be their voice in Washington D.C."  -  State Representative Dr. Greg Murphy    Republican Candidate for North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District

Greenville, North Carolina     Dr. Greg Murphy has sent a strong message that he is the clear frontrunner to be the next Congressman from North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District. In a result that most experts thought was unattainable, Murphy dominated a 17 candidate field and garnered an impressive 23% of the Republican ballots cast, besting his next closest challenger by 7 points.

Murphy has taken his "We the People" platform across Eastern North Carolina and he credits the people with the resounding victory. "The experts said getting more than 20% of the vote in a 17 person race was nearly impossible." Murphy said. "Tonight's victory is the next step in the process of my desire to be their voice in Washington D.C.."

While many of the other candidates filled the airwaves and mailboxes with advertising, Murphy led a ground attack that spent time shaking hands, knocking on doors and making phone calls to drum up support.

"It's been humbling to see the way folks have taken to my message and tonight's result is just evidence of what I've seen across the District for the past several weeks." Murphy was considered to be the frontrunner entering Election Day by those considering his resume, fundraising prowess and strong Conservative positions that mirrored those of the electorate. But it was his hard work that undoubtedly made the difference in the margin of victory.
Murphy noted "I've worked hard my entire life to meet goals and this was just another example. However, just like so many things in my life, there were so many others working along side me that made the goal achievable."

And while others sat back and marveled at the outcome Murphy had already shifted his focus to the next challenge before him.

It is now up to the 2nd place candidate to decide whether they want to call for a Primary run-off. Be it the run-off or the General Election, there will be an election on July 9.

"We will take tonight to celebrate a well deserved victory" Murphy said. "But tomorrow we will move full-steam ahead toward the election in July. The opponent makes no difference. We will work with the same determination that propelled us to today's victory."

Dr. Murphy has served 5 years in the State Legislature where he led the movement to curb the State's opioid crisis, as well as fighting for measures to help keep the cost of health care down.
