Press Release:

WASHINGTON, D.C.     U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel, held a joint committee hearing with the Senate Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee on the current condition of privatized military housing. Tillis and his Senate colleagues heard testimony from military family members, companies, and the Department of Defense on the current conditions of military housing, problems military families are facing, and solutions to ensure military families have the best possible housing.

VIDEO: Tillis to military families not getting results:

"I want to say for the benefit of everyone in this room and anyone watching that everyone on this committee is behind you and love to do casework for anyone in need. As we are trying to solve this problem, if you or any family you know is going through issues with military housing, do not hesitate to contact your local representative. If you are at Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point or New River, be sure to call my office and I guarantee we will help while we fix the systemic problem."

Military families in North Carolina facing significant housing issues should call Senator Tillis' office at (919) 856-4630.

VIDEO: to the military housing providers:

"I don't want anyone to leave this hearing thinking it is any one entity at fault. Every single one of you has work that you need to do and you need to do a top to bottom review to get it done, and I hope I have your commitment and the commitment of the other firms that provide military housing."

VIDEO: Tillis to the Department of Defense:

"Nothing irks me more than abuse of authority, and I consider retaliation from someone in authority the worst kind of leadership you can exhibit. As Chair of the Personnel Subcommittee who gets consulted on future promotions, I can assure you that if someone has a record of retaliation in response to military families raising issues with their housing, they will be needing to find a different line of work. This is a very important issue that needs to be solved quickly. I hope the DoD will convene and give us suggestions in advance of the NDAA fairly quickly, and I also want to see evidence that you are engaging the housing providers and solving this problem."
