We Are All Part of this Constitutional Republic | Eastern North Carolina Now

Commissioner's (Publisher's) note: I often write when my interest is piqued, which happened recently when I read commentary in the Beaufort Observer regarding the conduct of the Beaufort County Commissioners.

The aforementioned commentary in the Observer was that continued specious argument that some people will not come to Beaufort County to reside unless Beaufort County commissioners better conduct themselves in board meetings, which has long been an argument by some individuals, many of whom have no idea how our American government actually works.

Rather that explain that precept, I elected to present my core ambition on how I will conduct myself as someone who does understand how our American governments actually work.

An integral part of my initiative, coming back on the board of Beaufort County commissioners, is to be as respectful as a commissioner as each of my fellow commissioners deserve, and they will tell me /us that formula themselves as this Constitutional Republic is enjoined.

Moreover, I will always respectfully use my well earned political speech to best represent my constituents to the best of my ability at every moment in every meeting.

There are occasions when I may not perform to my self reflective, or their collective standards, but, I will try to do so at every point possible, our Lord willing.

What I will not tolerate, at any time, particularly in any meeting, is any fellow commissioner or any hired bureaucrat shutting down that political speech that I have rightfully won for my constituents to be well engaged in.

This was attempted by fellow commissioners and a few hired bureaucrats far longer than a decade earlier, and that political battle was easily won, and needed to be won to continue this little piece of America as part of a better functioning constitutional republic - our Constitutional Republic.

The difference between then and now is that I am well ready; well tooled with greater knowledge and dedication, to defend my constitutional right to perform my duties as a commissioner and better represent my constituents at every turn.

They know who they are. I know who many of them are. I know my prime directive to be their voice and that is what I will respectfully do.

Thanks Alex.

The second job takes some time, and who has too much of that, but I got to give back in my very small way.

You have already given back in a very big way.
