Hurricane Florence Storm Update - Beaufort County EMS | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release

    Storm Update:

    We are still expecting Hurricane Florence to have winds of up to 140 mph before and upon landfall with sustained winds of 55 + mph. Tropical force winds will begin Wednesday night into Thursday morning steadily increasing in intensity. Storm surge for our rivers is expected to be between 6' - 12'. Total rainfall for area is still projected to be 10" - 15". In addition, there is a tornado threat for our county through the event.

    Evacuation:

    Beaufort County is still under a voluntary evacuation of the entire county.

    Shelter:

    Beaufort County will open a shelter at Washington High School beginning at noon on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Please remember, to bring necessities for several days stay.

    Transportation to the Shelter:

    Beaufort County will be providing transportation to the Washington shelter according to the following information:

     •  Belhaven Food Lion Parking Lot

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 2:00 p.m. departure time

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 5:00 p.m. departure time

     •  Aurora Fire Department

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 2:00 p.m. departure time

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 5:00 p.m. departure time

     •  Blount's Creek Fire Department

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 2:30 p.m. departure time

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 5:30 p.m. departure time

     •  Chocowinity Food Lion Parking Lot

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 3:00 p.m. departure time

        •  Wednesday 9/12/2018 6:00 p.m. departure time

    Animals for Shelter Attendees:

    Animals other than service animals are not allowed at the shelter nor on bus transportation. Shelter attendees with no other arrangement for animals may check their animal into the Beaufort County Animal Shelter. You must have a verification form provided by shelter staff to check your animal into the Beaufort County Animal Shelter.

    Please remember that Hurricane Florence is a serious threat to our community. Please take every action available to keep yourself and your family safe.

Latest Governing Beaufort County

North Carolina's Rate Bureau has requested for 2024 an annual increase of 42.2%, whereby North Carolina's Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has exhibited a great willingness to take a firm stand against such an exorbitant increase.
I reckon one could always argue that ignorance rests in the eyes of the beholder, but, I'm not taking that bet ... not in these Orwellian times, when so few of our fellow travelers know so little of what is real, and far too much of what otherwise might be terminally fake.

The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners will hold a special called meeting with the Beaufort County Board of Education on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 3:30 PM at the Professional Development Center located at 845 Pierce St, Washington, NC.

This morning’s update included very minor changes to timing of today’s forecasted impacts.
This afternoon’s update from the National Weather Service (NWS) included another increase in the forecasted wind conditions for Beaufort County.
This morning’s update from the National Weather Service (NWS) included an elevated threat of severe weather, to include the possibility of tornados, as well as an increase in the forecasted wind conditions.
Our office is continuing to monitor an approaching cold front that is expected to bring high winds, elevated water levels, rain and the potential for severe storms to our area Tuesday and Wednesday. Forecast details for Beaufort County can be found below.
