    Mr. Kenneth "Terry" Black, age 70, a resident of Gallberry Road, Washington, died Friday, September 7, 2018 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.

    Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 10, 2018 at Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 U.S. Highway 17 North, Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen and Thomas Hamilton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Lester Harris, Walter Waters, Ron Black, Johnny Rose, Junnie Harris, Lee Ferguson and Swanson Ferguson.

    Mr. Black was born in Norfolk, Va. on December 27, 1947. He was the son of the late Kenneth Edward Black and Christine Bowen Black. Mr. Black graduated from Pantego High School. He served in the U.S Army during the Vietnam war. Mr. Black was a retired industrial electrician with Weyerhaeuser. He retired in 2013 with 48 years of service. Mr. Black coached baseball over 20 years in the Little Tarheel, Jr. Babe Ruth and Sr. Babe Ruth leagues. He was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ, where he has served as an Elder and Deacon. Mr. Black was a former member of the Old Ford Ruritan Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed talking sports, telling jokes and spending time with his grandchildren.

    On June 28, 1970, Mr. Black married the former Tracy Chesson, who survives.

    Surviving with his wife are his son Andrew "Todd" Black and his wife, Sara Hendrix Black and their children, Olivia and Savannah all of Florence, S.C.; daughter, Tana Black Jenkins and her husband, Everett Clay Jenkins and their children, Walker and Molly all of Oak Island, N.C.; three brothers, Elbert Black and wife, Carol of Virginia Beach, Va., Floyd Wayne Black and wife, Cathy of Grant FL, Ronald Eugene Black and wife, Betty of Plymouth; and four sisters, Joanne Thomas of Virginia Beach, Va., Gloria Jean Webster of Pinetown, Brenda Black of Manteo, and Sharon Harper of Moore, S.C.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Black was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Barnett and a brother, Richard Black "Rick" Swain.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home, 117 Gallberry Road, Washington.
