Mrs. Minnie "Estelle" McLawhorn Guthrie, 94, a resident of Ridgewood Manor and former resident of Chocowinity, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

   Mrs. Minnie "Estelle" McLawhorn Guthrie, 94, a resident of Ridgewood Manor and former resident of Chocowinity, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church of Chocowinity, officiated by Rev. Sonny Browne, Rev. Jim Cooke and Rev. Deacon Joy Dosher. A reception will follow the service at the church. A service of committal will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Cemetery. Hank Elks, Mickey Sawyer, Marvin Latham, Sammy Deans, Billy Albritton and Chuck Powell will serve as pallbearers. Ray Gurganus, Daniel Lewis, Wayne Moore and Johnnie Lewis will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mrs. Guthrie was born in Pitt County on Sept. 2, 1917, to the late Willie J. McLawhorn and Sallie Summerlin McLawhorn. She attended Washington High School and lived in Beaufort County for most of her life. Mrs. Guthrie was a farmer and a homemaker. On Dec. 24, 1933, she married Thelbert Russell Guthrie, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1987. Mrs. Guthrie was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Episcopal Churchwomen and had served on the Altar Guild.

    Mrs. Guthrie is survived by a son, Edmund Guthrie of Chocowinity; daughters-in-law: Shelby Guthrie of Jacksonville, Mary Jo Guthrie of Washington, and Betsy Guthrie of Chocowinity; two half-sisters, Willie Jean Averette and husband Carl of Farmville, and Linda Perry and husband Benny of Atlantic Beach; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Guthrie is preceded in death by four sons: Frederick Guthrie, Russell Guthrie Jr., Larry Guthrie, and Jerry Guthrie; a sister, Christine Sawyer; and a brother, H.M. McLawhorn.

    The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Guthrie, 112 Dogwood Drive, Pamlico Village, Washington.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 332, Chocowinity, NC 27817.
