    Doris Asby Johnson, age 85, died peacefully on May 8th, 2018 after bravely battling Parkinson's at Moosehaven Health Care Center, Orange Park, Florida. Doris was born to Finis and Willie Mae Holland on February 4, 1933 in Three Rivers, Texas. She adored her Uncle John & Aunt Jewel Gould who helped to raise her in Arkansas.

    A memorial service was held Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the Moosehaven Chapel with her son Bishop Charlie Asby presiding.

    There will be a visitation at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, NC May 16th from 6:00 - 7:00 with her funeral service following immediately after with Bishop Jerry Waters officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Pamlico Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Thursday, May 17th at 11:00. Bryan Thorne, Greg Reed, Paul Roberson, Ken Brady, Garrett Brady and Thomas Brady will serve as pallbearers.

    Doris married her prince charming, the love of her life, Charlie T. Asby Jr. on January 8, 1954. She was his yellow rose of Texas. They met while he was serving in the U. S. Air Force, stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1998.

    She married Herbert Johnson on May 28, 2002 at Moosehaven. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2008.

    She worked as a secretary for the City of Washington and Eastern Optical. She was a teacher's aide for the Washington City School System until her retirement in 1983. Also, she served as secretary to the governor of the local Loyal Order of Moose Lodge of Washington.

    Doris treasured times with her family. They enjoyed watching her "craff" (laugh and cry at the same time.) She enjoyed Bible Study, playing Bingo, cards, reading and shopping with her girls.

    Doris became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose when she joined the Washington Chapter #1187 on February 7, 1967. She received her Academy of Friendship on May 7, 1971 and received her College of Regents degree June 8, 1991.

    Doris moved to Moosehaven on January 4, 2000, where she has resided for 18 years.

    In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers John "Jack" Dickinson, Robert "Bob" Holland and sister Joyce Armstrong.

    She is survived by her son, Charlie T. Asby III and wife Faye of Goldsboro, North Carolina and daughters, Glenda Waters and husband Jerry, of Smithfield, North Carolina, Dianna Brady and husband Ken of St. Augustine, Florida, also grandchildren - Penny Thorne, Amanda Reed, Heather Roberson, Garrett Brady and Thomas Brady and great grandchildren - Caroline and Carson Thorne, Micaiah Gurkin, Seth Reed, Giana and Julia Roberson.

    The family would like to thank the staff of Moosehaven and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for their love and devoted care.
