    Most of my stories to the grandkids start with believe it or not. In 1963, believe it or not, my school was segregated and the only confusion was with two ethnic Japanese sisters. There was one Black School in the county and the term Afro-American was not yet invented.

    In WW1, Black American Soldiers were assigned to the French Army. In WW2, I am aware of a Black Tank Division and Fighter squadron. Korea was totally integrated and so began drafting of everybody for Vietnam. The Navy had an estimated 6 per cent Black sailors...the infantry 20 per cent with the civilian population of 13 per cent.

    The Military has a special way of Attitude Adjustment for the Southerners (Grits), New York (Yankees) and Cajuns (Louisiana French). I met numerous groups like the Pennsylvania Dutch who are not the non-violent Amish. America is a quilt of many colors as Jesse Jackson might have said.

    Anyway, Vietnam War lasted 19 years from 1955 to 1975 and all ethnic groups were in combat. It seems to me obvious that we "can all just get along" when the enemy is shooting at us.
