Congress ought to get busy working this very important piece of legislation. This could make a real difference to the Folks Back Home.

This Blog Posting was originally published on November 29, 2008, modified September 16, 2017 and has been ignored by Congress ever since.

We all appreciate how busy our Congress is but they need to be guided by us to address really important issues.

Our Congress passes lots of laws that probe deep into every facet of our lives. They pass laws that need not be passed. They pass laws that are unenforceable. This one act on their part could save Billions of Dollars and Thousands of Lives Every Single Year.

Oops, I neglected to tell you what this new legislative effort is about. I apologize for this lapse on my part.

I just read in the newspaper where the end of the hurricane season has passed. You all know, of course, that this means that, by Federal Law, there can no longer be any hurricanes this calendar year. That is a great relief to all of us every year.

My question is why does Congress allow the Hurricane Season to be so long? Our elected representative should pass a law that makes the Official Hurricane Season last just 24 hours. We all know that there is another law that says we have to have a Hurricane Season each year. We accept this as a necessary hitch in our National Get-Along but why does it have to be so long?

This one ought to be a no brainer for Congress. Propose it. Vote it into the law of the land by a Voice Vote. Done! They can then stand up and give themselves a resounding round of applause. Congress could then get back to re-naming post offices, raising taxes, going on vacation, legislating our every move, poking holes in the air during impassioned speeches to empty chambers and, of course, heading out to Happy Hour.

    Would I kid u?
