Homeland Security Secretary John Kelley is Named Chief of Staff | Eastern North Carolina Now

Republican political genius, and magician of sorts, Reince Priebus is out as White House Chief of Staff, and Homeland Security Secretary, Marine General John F. Kelly is in. The deal was done of Thursday, July 27, 2017; we found out about it a day later.

As shocked as some people were by this change at the top of the White House pecking order, the transition was near seamless, with the announcement of the Cabinet Secretary coinciding with the announcement of Chief of Staff Priebus's departure. Former Republican National Committee Chairman had no ill words for anyone, and even admitted that General Kelly could well be exactly the right man for the job.

In all appearances, former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus is a smart guy and a nice fellow, but, possibly not the right fit for the mercurial, disruptive Donald J. Trump. As every one must know by now, President Trump sings from the personal pages of his own song book, and often off key; however, he often his political vocal range hits that right disruptive note, and that is why the man was elected - to change the marching melody of a dysfunctional Washington, DC. In many respects, this President does not disappoint that electoral that knows there is a chronic cancer of ineptitude growing in the body politic, and repair is most necessary, and soon.

Most of the folks that elected Donald John Trump expect the unexpected, and the man has surely delivered, and maybe he has delivered too well, making it difficult for those administration officials that work under this president to read his mercurial, unconventional delivery of policy. Most are hoping that General John Kelly will bring his immediate success as Homeland Security Secretary to this new position where disciplined order, and lots of it, may help right the ship of the White House administration, and help save this most unusual, most unique presidency.

I love your analogy, and the Chesty Puller quote.

Maybe, that is why Trump hires generals; because, they are the only ones who he will allow to talk to him in that straightforward manner.

I had an article in the stack about survival skills vs Job skills which is along the same lines.
John McCain has good survival skills which is to resist the guards at all cost. I think he has a built in chip on his shoulder regarding Trump and sees himself as champion of the mavericks . It worked great for his captivity but not too well as a Senator. His first instinct it to resist authority. Any study of his life will show that he resist discipline most likely as a result of his Admiral Father and Grandfather. I have the utmost admiration for that trait in his POW survival but think he it does not go well in governing. But is is possible to admire one character trait and at the same time criticize that same trait in regards to other job requirements.

I have no doubt that Gen Kelly will stand up well or he will tell the "D" where to stick it in true Marine fashion.

As the most famous Marine Chesty Puller once said when he came to a Marine base.

"Take me to the brig, I want to see the real Marines."

Well said. He truly is.

Priebus would have been the perfect guy under a different president. I pray that John Kelly will suit The Donald.

I have never met a New York City native who was not brash, outspoken, rude, and perhaps self-centered. I say that not as pejorative but it is a survival skill required in the city of the Big Apple. I also note that most have a very thin skin regarding criticism.

When the country elected someone from New York, they should not be surprised when they see the New York Attitude on display. For good or bad, he does not suffer facilitators well. After all he is the epitome of the good old NY, Bronx, Queens Attitude.

HEY I'M WALKING HERE.

Bless his little heart.
