Bottleneckers use licensing laws to limit competition, boost prices



    There's a new term for business owners who use government licensing laws to protect themselves from competition and to maintain high prices. The term is "bottleneckers."

    Dick Carpenter, director of strategic research for the Institute for Justice, has co-authored a book detailing the economic damage these bottleneckers cause. He highlighted key issues from the book during a presentation Monday to the John Locke Foundation's Shaftesbury Society.
