O   Publisher's note from the publisher of BCN and Beaufort Commissioner Stan Deatherage: Tonight, December 12, 2011, the Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners will conduct the county's business, with the first item of business being the selection of a chairman and vice-chairman. There is an excellent chance that I will no longer be the county's vice-chairman, which will move me from the center of the dais, and back to where I am very comfortable - on the right (facing the dais) wing.

Moving back to the right wing of the dais, after two years as vice-chairman, will afford me the opportunity to return to a more activist role, which was long my strong suit in my first 13 years of service. The move will also offer me a better opportunity to stay in touch with BCN, which will give you the opportunity to learn of some of the news of unfolding events within the construct of this meeting.

I am very slow at using a smart phone so these news items will come in short bursts, but please stay tuned in. I'll try to make it worth your while.

Beaufort County Commmissioners keep the same chairman, elect a new vice-chairman.

By a vote of 5 to 2, the board re-elected Commissioner Jerry Langley over Commissioner Robert Cayton. Simmilarly, Commissioner Cayton was elected vice-chairman over sitting vice-chairman Commissioner Stan Deatherage.
