Shatner LIVES! and Facebook has the Capacity to Suck ... and Often | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's note: What we have here, in this post, is a farcical rant decrying the wanton populist zeitgeist that is Facebook, and just how it influences the wandering collective, nearly spent ethos of great swaths of sheople ... I mean people.

I reckon it is the nature of the throng to move as one entity, and it is the nature of others to find that funny. I am of the latter.

If you have not had you daily ration of "Fake News", you have not had your daily quota of Facebook.

For instance, I just read on a Facebook ad that William Shatner had died, but, I can't find that prescient news anywhere else, save Facebook.

I'm not about to ask any, or all of my 2800 plus Facebook "friends" what has actually happened here - Did Shatner die? - because, I will know the answer, and I will not need Facebook to discover it. There is far more responsible media on the Net.

Facebook is full of "fake news": They make money off of it with their ads, and plenty of its contributors (who build out their site) - maybe, even some of my FB friends - who 'don't have enough sense to pour piss out of boot' - so, maybe this is how it best plays out around here on Facebook; FB is all about the "fake news", and what extent folks will endure the delivery of it.

Facebook only moderates information to represent the concerns of a California mentality (Facebook is headquartered there), and if you believe that the only real news exists in your newsfeed, you are probably deluding yourself, no, you are definitely deluding yourself.

Accordingly, if you like 'fake news', you'll love Facebook.

For me, Facebook exists for a whole other set of purposes, and, it ain't to get the news - fake or otherwise. It is to give news, and to gauge the feedback of its consumption. That is all I use it for, unless it is the way I must message someone, and I have about broken away from that since BCN ( beaufortcountynow.com ) has a much better private message system than FB.

One more bit of housekeeping here: If you are friending me to get me to like your site, or play your games, you probably will be disappointed.

If you do something half as cool as what I like on the Net, and where I spend my cyber time, I will probably like your site, but, if not, I won't. And, if you are one of those so called FB "friends" that continues to ask me to play games: Stop! I don't play games other than the game of life, and that takes all my spare time.

I guess the message here is: Don't mess with me on Shatner dying, especially after Meryl Streep's stupid talk last night and now today, which I have had a belly full.

When a real actor like Shatner is reported dead, I get concerned.

"Fake news" notwithstanding, thankfully, Shatner LIVES!

I agree, as John points out in the video, there is no privacy anymore. The fake news is the political class of both sides using one fact to create a scenario of Fake News. It is a given that both the Russians, USA and almost every other country is actively hacking each other. Using one true statement to form a complete narrative is the classic technique as in the big "R" word.

Identity politics is not only practiced by the Democrats is practiced by some Republicans as well.

No one knows for sure about the Russians, but what we do know is that America, and its institutions are being hacked and Obama did almost nothing about it over the last 8 years.

The Russians hacked the DNC servers. Could be fake news, see link below.

Here is additional context for the Russian hack issue from a guy who knows computers.

The news of this great actor's demise was most distressing. It was if all acting had died in one final last breath.

Are you tired of the "Fake News"? Let us know the fake news when you see it.

Here, I offer a whimsical account of the intellectual failings of Facebook.
