Press Release:

RALEIGH, NC - Today the North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) released a statement in response to an editorial in the New York Times by Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II. The editorial can be viewed HERE.

  • "We condemn in the strongest possible terms the statement by Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, which declares to the nation that the violence and property damage in Charlotte was caused by our brave police, state troopers and members of the North Carolina National Guard. It is grossly offensive to the peace offerers, who are trying to save lives and protect property." - NCGOP Vice Chairman, Michele Nix

The statement by Rev. Dr. Barber says: "Yes, a few dozen provocateurs did damage property and throw objects at the police, after being provoked by the officers' tear gas, rubber bullets and military-style maneuvers."

Barber often serves as the de-facto spokesperson for the North Carolina Democratic Party. We call on him to retract this statement, and for Hillary Clinton, Deborah Ross and Roy Cooper to condemn it.
