Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Yesterday, Governor McCrory addressed the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association's Annual Training Conference in Sunset Beach.

"Like most North Carolinians, Governor McCrory was shocked and saddened by the recent police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge," said Pat McCrory campaign manager Russell Peck. "Since the day he took office, Governor McCrory has been committed to providing North Carolina's law enforcement officers with the resources they need to keep us, and them, safe."

Last year, 123 law enforcement officers lost their lives in the line of duty. This past month, Governor McCrory signed H.B. 1044, establishing North Carolina's first "Blue Alert" system. If a suspect endangers the life of a law enforcement official, communities across the state will receive an alert in order to apprehend the suspect as quickly as possible.

Background:

For these reasons, the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association supported as a high priority the enactment into law of House Bill 972."
