Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     After an evaluation of the candidates for governor, including their records and their future plans for our state, The North Carolina Troopers Association endorsed Pat McCrory for a second term as governor of North Carolina.

"The past few years have been dangerous times for law enforcement officers. But through these challenging times, the law enforcement community has always been able to count on Governor McCrory," said Danny Jenkins, president of the North Carolina Troopers Association. "The NCTA membership strongly feels that North Carolina is a stronger, safer and better place with Pat McCrory as governor, and we encourage all North Carolinians to vote for Pat McCrory on November 8th."

"I thank the North Carolina Trooper's Association for this important endorsement," said Governor Pat McCrory. "Our brave highway patrol officers put their lives on the line every day to keep North Carolinians safe and deserve our continued respect, appreciation and support. Over the past three years, we have made great strides in helping our law enforcement officers and addressing serious public safety concerns, but there is still more work to do."

In its letter endorsing Pat McCrory for governor, The North Carolina Trooper's Association says Governor McCrory has strived to fairly and impartially uphold the rule of law in North Carolina and help the law enforcement community do its job. During his first term as governor, he passed needed pay increases for our highway patrol officers, supported the implementation of dash cams on patrol cars and established innovative programs to strengthen the Highway Patrol by adding more military veterans to our ranks, for instance. Governor McCrory has also pushed for additional resources and fixes to the state's crime lab, which has been a constant hindrance to law enforcement's ability to keep North Carolinians safe because of decades of mismanagement.

Yesterday, Governor McCrory signed a bill to create a 'Blue Alert System' in North Carolina, similar to Amber Alerts and Silver Alerts, to aid in the apprehension of suspects who kill or inflict serious bodily injury on a law enforcement officer. The Governor also signed legislation to help balance privacy, safety and transparency with body camera and dash camera footage.

"Of particular importance to the North Carolina Troopers Association and its members is the governor's commitment to addressing substance abuse and addiction, mental health and underage drinking in our state," added Danny Jenkins. "Instead of ignoring the problems, Governor McCrory has delivered on this commitment, adding millions of dollars help address these critical areas of concern. Governor McCrory has also been a true partner to the law enforcement community in the fight against drug smuggling, cartel violence and human trafficking in our state - issues that don't always get the attention they deserve."

The North Carolina Troopers Association is made up of more than two thousand active and retired Highway Patrol employees. It was formed in 1977 to advance the principles of proper law enforcement and support the betterment of our criminal justice system.
