Governor McCrory Signs Bills Including a Law to Protect Privacy of Students Online

Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory has signed the following bills into law:

  • House Bill 632 - A bill to establish new data privacy requirements for vendors of third-party online educational applications for K-12 students. Vendors would be prohibited from engaging in targeted advertising, renting or selling of information.
  • House Bill 357 - A bill to amend and clarify procedures governing the admissibility of written chemical analysis results. Current law provides that the defendant's failure to file a timely objection to the introduction of a chemical analyst's affidavit in district court shall be deemed a waiver of the right to object to the affidavit's admissibility. The bill adds a provision requiring that if such a waiver occurs, the affidavit be admitted into evidence without the analyst's testimony.
