Election Day and Absentee Ballot Deadline | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

RALEIGH, N.C.     The State Board of Elections is reminding voters that tomorrow is Election Day and the deadline to postmark mail-in absentee ballots. Ballots postmarked on or before Election Day will be accepted through March 18, though military and overseas voters have until March 21.

Some post offices no longer postmark mail, so it is very important that voters make sure that their ballots are postmarked.

This has already been a busy election, with early and absentee voting surpassing primaries in 2008 and 2012.

"We anticipate a steady flow of voters to the polls on Election Day," said Executive Director Kim Westbrook Strach. "If you haven't already made your voice heard, make sure you do so before 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night."

Voters can find their assigned precinct voting location by using the online Polling Place Look-up.

Most voters will be asked to show an acceptable form of photo ID at the polls. Those who are physically unable to enter the polling location may vote curbside and will have the option to show an acceptable photo ID or alternative identification (ex. a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or other government document).

No voter will be turned away from the polls because they lack an acceptable photo ID. More information on voter ID can be found online.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections is the state agency charged with overall responsibility for administration of the elections process and campaign finance disclosure in North Carolina. The office of the State Board of Elections works in conjunction with County Board of Elections offices to ensure that elections are conducted lawfully and fairly.
