Christie endorsed The Donald, Go Figure | Eastern North Carolina Now

I guess I should be impressed that Chris Christie has endorsed Donald Trump.

I guess I should be impressed that Chris Christie has endorsed Donald Trump. Unfortunately, I do not find the fact that one chameleon endorses another chameleon as a pervasive argument for my support. Now if I could get one more chameleon, Michael Bloomberg, to endorse The Donald, I would feel much better.

I don't usually like to throw around the RINO label because it usually indicates a self-identified persona. If I call myself a Doctor of Philosophy, does that make me a Philosopher? Or if I have many very profound pronouncements does that make me a Doctor of Philosophy? A republican in one part of the country may not be the same as a republican in another part of the country. I think they call that a big tent. Is everyone in the audience at the circus the same?

Dr. Carson had what I think was the best explanation of the current race when he said: "The fruit salad of their life is what I will look at." While it may be simplistic to use this approach and has created a few jokes on the naivety of the statement, it has at least one thing going for it. It does not require a close examination on to what the meaning of the word "is" is.

Ted McDonald's (BCN Writer and Contributor) approach is similar. Put all your physical possessions on the kitchen table; Diplomas, awards, finance statements etc. and that is who you are. That is true as far as it goes on your accomplishments.

However, on making judgement on matters of character and beliefs, it does not tell the whole story. When we elect a president, we are electing the sum total of person's integrity and actions, which does not always come in physical form to be stacked on a table. I was taught that we will be judged by our deeds and not our pronouncements (Matthew 6:1-34). I tend to use the same approach in selecting candidates. I am very skeptical of a guy who must tell you his resume every time he speaks and remember adjectives are used to enhance an otherwise dull statement.

I always have a built in skepticism on a Republican elected in a state that is overwhelmingly Democratic. The problem with our two party system is that it is either two extremes or a mushy middle ground (i.e. moderate) that allows our politicians to define themselves by their own choice.

Lastly, the selection of a candidate based on endorsements presupposes that the endorser knows better than I what a candidate really stands for. That requires me to now make a judgement on the endorser who is no longer running or may have another agenda. I not saying I am not influenced by endorsements, but I try not to apply the character of the endorser to the candidate.

So in the final analysis I guess we should "look at the Fruit Salad of their life". As it turns out my mother had it right when she kept telling me to eat my fruit and vegetables.

Wow, a short post by Bobby Tony, He must be slipping.

Where's Gene when you really don't need him.

This next election may prove to be the race to the bottom, but it could prove be good for America. One thing is for damn sure. Americans get the government they deserve.

For those who enjoy short quizzes to pick a candidate, here is a fairly unbiased quiz to help. Be sure to check the show more questions under each heading. It expands to a more detailed in depth analysis of your views.

But, I caution the results are based on the questions asked and your answers. Like all polls and surveys, it is the questions not asked that can affect the outcome dramatically
