Governor McCrory Announces Appointments | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Raleigh, N.C.     The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:

• Alexander A. Guess (Wake County) — Guess is president of Alex Guess CPA, a full service CPA firm located in Cary, N.C. He has a BA in Business Management and Finance from the University of South Florida. He has been a licensed CPA since 1991. Guess is a founding member of the Kiwanis Club in Holly Springs, N.C. and a former member of Fuquay-Varina Rotary Club.

    The commission is the trial court of record for questions of appraisal, listing, and exemption under the property tax laws. Appeal from the commission is direct to the Court of Appeals.

• Lester E. Latkowski (Wake County) — Latkowski is a content writer for various magazines and websites, as well as an accomplished graphic designer for deaf websites. This is a reappointment.
• Amy Shuey (Buncombe County) — Shuey is an Educational Audiologist at Buncombe County Schools, providing professional development opportunities and working with students with hearing loss.
• Bernice H. Cayton (Forsyth County) — Cayton is the President of N.C. Deaf-Blind Associates. He has worked in the field of mental health for many years, notably at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
• Julie Bishop (Guilford County) — Bishop is President of the N.C. Chapter of Self Help for Hard of Hearing. This is a reappointment.
• Donald M. Tinsely, Sr. (Rockingham County) — Tinsely is a Secretary at the National Black Deaf Advocates in Asheville, N.C.
• Erika Gagnon (Alamance County) — Gagnon is a Pediatric Cochlear Implant Audiologist at UNC Health School of Medicine.
• Dr. Kunal Mitra (Alamance County) — Dr. Mitra is a pediatrician and Management and Leadership Pathway Fellow for Duke University Medical Center. He is a current member of the Duke Orange County Medical Society.
• Mary W. Crump (Brunswick County) — Crump is an Interpreting Services Specialist for the State of North Carolina. She worked at the division of services for the deaf and hard of hearing for seven years and worked as a community interpreter for 20 years before that.

    The council makes recommendations to the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services for cost-effective provisions, coordination and improvement of services to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf and blind. There are 28 members on the board each serving a four-year term. The governor appoints 20 members.

• Sherry L. Womack (Lee County) — Lieutenant Colonel Womack entered the Army at age 17 in 1981 and graduated from one of the Army's first co-ed Basic Training Courses at Fort Rucker Alabama. She graduated from the Warrant Officer course and became commissioned as an Army 2nd Lieutenant. She assumed a Captain's position and served as the medical officer in charge of the Fort Knox Correctional Facility Medical Treatment.
• ​Danielle G. McCoy (Guilford County) — McCoy is a licensed physical therapist at Gentiva Health Services. She practices in a wide variety of diagnoses including neurology, orthopedic, pediatrics and wound care.
• Samuel R. Ibrahim (New Hanover County) — Ibrahim is a computer technology professional. He is the Vice President of Technology for Intracoastal Realty.
• Ray V. Beatty (Catawba County) — Beatty serves as Chairman of Mental Health Partners.

    The commission adopts rules and regulations for the conduct of the state's social service programs and has the power to adopt, amend and rescind rules and regulations. The commission has 13 members each serving a four-year term. The governor appoints all members.

• ​Hector Ingram (New Hanover County) — Ingram is the owner of Ingram & Company. He is a NC State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. While attending the Royal Military Academy, he served in the British Army 3rd Command as a Troop Leader.
• Christie L. Standish (Cherokee County) — Standish has been a Licensed Certified Residential Appraiser since 2011. She is self-employed at 3D Appraisals, Inc. located in Andrews, N.C. She serves as the President of the North Carolina Professional Appraisers Coalition.

    The purpose of the board is to license, certify and regulate real estate appraisers, including processing license applications and processing applications from schools and other organizations wishing to offer prelicensing/certification and continuing education courses.

• Dr. ​Katherine Glenn (Guilford County) — Dr. Glenn holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from UNC Greensboro. She has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1992 and is a Licensed Professional Supervisor. This is a reappointment.
• Wayne Mixon (Johnston County) — Mixon the Budget Officer for the N.C. Department of Human Resources. Mixon is responsible for handling $110 million dollar budget for federal funding resources. He is a former Executive Director for the N.C. Board of Barber Examiners. He currently serves as the Lieutenant Commander for the U.S. Coast Guard SECTOR North Carolina.

    The board examines and approves the qualifications of applicants for licenses and issues or renews licenses of successful applicants. The board has seven members each serving a three-year term. The governor appoints all members.
