Bobby Tony ventures into the minefield of "Global Warming" with the help of a Nobel Laureate | Eastern NC Now

Having opinions does not require having facts, but it is helpful to listen or hear those who do have facts.

Having opinions does not require having facts, but it is helpful to listen or hear those who do have facts.

Now in the interest of full disclosure, I did not search this out myself. One of my highly educated email friends sent it to me. I could take bets on the fact that most readers will never make it through the 33 minutes of this video. If you don't care to spend that much time, I urge you to just read the short abstract just below the video

So why bother to post something and possibly waste bandwidth, time and convince no one who already has his mind up? My point is that our eyes may glaze over and our mind may wander when we listen to a scientist offer a factual viewpoint on the controversial subject of global warming. But we should at least have some facts to backup our opinions. In engineering, the constant admonition is to make fact-based decisions devoid of emotion. That is why most engineers are dull as ditchwater.

Ivar Giaevert is a 1973 Nobel Laureate winner in the field of Physics who possess a sense of humor.
Because of the following statement from the American Physical Society, he resigned from that organization in 2008.

"If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth's physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now."

I resigned from the society in 2011. First: nothing in science is incontrovertible. Second: the "measured" average temperature increase in 100 years or so, is 0.8 Kelvin. Third: since the Physical Society claim it has become warmer, why is everything better than before? Forth: the maximum average temperature ever measured was in 1998, 17 years ago. When will we stop wasting money on alternative energy?

Below is a link to the Speech made at the Society Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in 2012.

The Strange Case for Global Warming

So the next time someone ask you what you think about global warming, unless you are a scientist or Al Gore, keep your mouth shut because you like I probably don't have any idea what the heck the facts are. If you must venture an opinion, ask them to view this video and get back to you. You may be surprised how few will ever want to engage you again on that particular or any other subject.
